Chapter 190
Mated in the Shadow of My Sister
Chapter 0190
âHow is this possible?â 1 asked Nolan in our link. âAs far as I know, Joey does not have any ranked
wolves in his family tree.â
âNot all beta wolves are born into the position. Most are, but sometimes wolves earn the position the blessing of the Moon Goddess,â Nolan replied.
Huh.

âI said sit, Nick,â Joey repeated. âNeil is fine.â
I glared at Joey. âHow could you possibly know that?
He rolled his eyes at me. Great. So he not only has the authority; he has the attitude.
âTwo reasons. First, the Movement has wolves watching all of the council members, including Neil. I just confirmed by mind-link that Sheila, Stephanie, and Margie have not interacted with Neil in the past 36 hours. Second, unless they somehow got their hands on some super rare, expensive stuff, it will be Impossible for them to drug Neil. If he ends up sleeping with one of them, he will most likely be doing it
voluntarily.â
âWhy canât they drug him?â I asked Joey.
(Joey POV)
I put my hands over my face so that Nick could not see my reaction to his question. I was the one who
was a âCâ student in school, not Nick. How did he not know the answer to his own question?
âHe has grown up with Margie and Robert,â my wolf, Jett, reminded me.
âNot an explanation,â I linked back.
âI thought you were an âAâ student in school,â I responded.
âStop the attitude. Why canât they drug Neil? Because of the Movement?â
I groaned.
âNo, because once council wolves accept their position on the council, most drugs do not effect them; it is one of the special blessings given to them. It is to protect their independence. The only drugs that can
be effective on them are incredibly expensive and hard to obtain. As a result, council wolves typically can be blackmailed but not drugged,â I explained to Nick.
1
âOh. I think I remember hearing something about that in school. I guess I forgot. But why would the Moon Goddess protect them from drugging but not blackmail?â
I groaned once again. I almost wish my high school social studies teacher could hear me now.
âShe canât protect them from blackmail without altering their ability to make their own decisions. All werewolves including council wolves- have a human counterpart, and free will is a cornerstone of
being human.â
âohâ
âYeah, oh. Now will you please sit down?â
Finally, Nick moved away from the door and sat back down on the couch.
âWhere is James?â he asked me as soon as he was seated.
âTell me what else you know about the blackmail plot and then I will tell you.â.
âI thought you said the Movement has wolves watching all of the council members?â.
I paused before responding. âDo you think Nick is being sincere?â I asked Jett.
âYeah. Jenny probably had enough on her phone to fry us. If he did not want to be a part of the
movement, he would have turned the phone over already.
âBut what if he just wanted more information about what we were up to?â
âAlpha Randall or the werewolf council could have alpha-ordered the information out of us. I think Nick
really does want to join the Movement.â
A part of me was not convinced, but Jett had always been a better judge of character than me. I decided
to follow Jettâs instincts.
âWe do have wolves following all of the council members. But it has put a tremendous strain on our
resources, because we are having to do it around the clock for all six of them. We have been aware that
some of the council members are likely compromised, but we do not know which ones or how many.â
Nick nodded. âI can help. Neil, Frank, and Ray have not been compromised yet, the other three have been. Stephanie, Sheila, and my mother believe Neil is the easiest one to sway of the three remaining.â
âTold you,â Jett taunted me. âHe can prove quite valuable to the Movement.â
âSo now where is James?â Nick asked.
âHopefully with Lily.â
He looked at me shocked. âWith Lily? Why?â
I stared at Nick for a moment, but he did not say anything. âPlease tell me you are joking.â
Nick furrowed his eyebrows at me.
âLily and James are mates,â I reminded him.
Nick looked at me in confusion. âYes, but they rejected each other. We were all there.â
I groaned yet again. This was going to be a long night.
