Chapter 1005
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

âDo you not love me anymore? Did I do something wrong? You told me toâ¦â
âBe good before you left, and we just talked on video chat! I have pictures and videos of you! Please donât leave me!â Elmaâs lips trembled as fresh sobs wracked her small body.
Kallie felt a headache coming on. Who could possibly process such a bombshell? Sheâd woken up with no recollection of her past, and now someone was telling her she had children? And not just one child, but three! The three children stared at her with wide, pleading eyes. The two girls were already crying, and even the boy, who had been bravely holding back his tears, now had red-rimmed eyes, threatening to overflow.
Kallie felt utterly lost. What could she possibly say to these children? Her memories were a jumbled mess, fragments of a life she couldnât quite grasp. But she was adamant that she didnât have any children. Surely, she would remember giving birth? But looking at them now, she had to admit, they did bear a striking resemblance to her.
Jake tore his gaze away from the children and Kallie, fixing the butler with an icy glare.
âRemember, youâre the Reeves family butler. Your loyalty lies with me. I wonât tolerate anyone siding with outsiders.â
The butler met Jakeâs gaze without flinching.
âMr. Reeves, my loyalty has always been with the Reeves family. Iâve watched you grow up, and I care about your happiness. You may not say it aloud, but itâs clear to everyone that youâre hurting. You and Miss Nixon have drifted apart, and youâre no longer the same man you used to be. Youâre living in a constant state of pain and numbness. Why are you torturing yourself like this? Besides, your children are part of this family too. I canât ignore their wishes.â
A wave of helplessness washed over Jake. He had kept his issues with Kallie private, with Lacey being the only one having some knowledge of their discord, a move that had shielded Kallie from any potential gossip or judgment. He just couldnât bring himself to tarnish Kallieâs image, willingly enduring the consequences of her actions. Yet, those around him, unaware of the complexities of his relationship with Kallie, couldnât fully grasp his predicament. Nevertheless, their concern for his wellbeing was genuine.
Jake waved his hand, his gaze hardening.
âFine. But let me be clear. If this happens again, there will be severe consequences. Do I make myself understood?â
The butler dipped his head respectfully, acknowledging Jakeâs authority.
Jake approached the group, his expression a mixture of concern and frustration. He gently patted Elmaâs back as she wept uncontrollably, his brow furrowed with worry.
âElma, sweetheart, you know crying isnât good for you, especially when youâre not feeling well. Try to calm down.â
Elma rarely allowed herself to appear vulnerable in front of Jake. Overwhelmed by emotion, she turned and clung to Jakeâs leg, seeking comfort in his presence.
Elmaâs sobs intensified, her small body shaking with grief. Kallie stood frozen, completely at a loss for how to comfort the distraught child.
