Chapter 1042
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Approaching Kallie, Lacey took her hand.
âDo you really not remember me at all?â
Laceyâs expression was intense, tinged with curiosity.
Kallie grasped the implication.
âYouâre suggesting we knew each other previously?â
Lacey confirmed with a nod.
âExactly. You once acknowledged me as a sister figure to you. We were quite close, and that was why I cared deeply for Elma. If you doubt my words, feel free to ask anyone within our circle. Iâm being honest, not deceptive. But for some reason, we drifted apart later on.â
Kallie hummed noncommittally, not pressing further.
Lacey found herself momentarily speechless, her prepared words halted. She chuckled dryly, breaking the silence.
âArenât you curious about why we fell out, or doesnât your past interest you?â
Kallie nodded, her voice firm.
âI do want to know, but Iâd rather figure it out on my own. If someone twists the truth about my past, I wonât be able to tell whatâs real. The best way is to piece things together myself.â
Laceyâs chest tightened with unease, though she wasnât ready to let it go just yet.
âBut what if your memories never return?â
Kallie smiled nonchalantly.
Get the latest gαâηÏνðâsâ¤com âThatâs fine. Maybe those memories werenât worth holding on to anyway.â
This was a reaction Lacey hadnât anticipated from Kallie.
Having discerned Laceyâs motives, Kallie rose from her seat, her smile vanishing.
âIf thereâs nothing else, Iâll be heading out. Miss Payne, youâve had a full day. Take some rest.â Her words, though polite, carried an edge that hinted at something unsaid.
Kallie turned to leave.
However, Lacey reached out and seized her arm firmly.
âClayton is your ex-husband!â
Lacey said this to mislead Kallie. Yet, she observed pure surprise in Kallieâs expressionânot even the slightest confusion, but undiluted shock at her knowledge of this.
It didnât take long for Lacey to realize that Kallieâs amnesia must somehow involve Clayton. Not only had Kallieâs memory faded, but it also had been altered. Such findings brought comfort to Lacey, deepening her belief that Kallie wasnât worth staying by Jakeâs side.
A peculiar smile appeared on Laceyâs face as she tightened her hold on Kallieâs hand.
âYou and Clayton shared a wonderful bond, but he wasnât the father of your children. While there was indeed a time when you and Jake were an item, you two never got along, betraying each other. Your relationship with Jake had never gone beyond a marriage of convenience. Clayton is the one you truly love. You should grasp why I am telling you all this. Donât pester Jake anymore. You never loved him. Let him be with someone else, like me.â
