Chapter 1089
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Kallie winced slightly, trying to shift in his grasp.
Jake responded by pulling her closer, enveloping her in a tight embrace.
Kallie struggled briefly, but it was no use. She glared at him, then gave up and went still.
Jakeâs thoughts were in turmoil, his voice laced with a chilling calmness.
âSo, if you realize you still have feelings for him, will you leave with him?â
Jakeâs gaze bored into hers, his eyes a complex mix of emotions: anger, fear, and a deep-seated vulnerability. It was as if her answer held the power to break him completely.
Kallie couldnât help but laugh, the sound echoing through the room. She reached up to caress Jakeâs cheek, her eyes softening with affection.
âNo way, silly. I was just teasing you. I donât want to see him. It might sound irresponsible, but I donât care about the past anymore. All that matters is that I love you now, and I want to be with you.â
The tension in Jakeâs face visibly eased at her words. He hummed in response, a faint smile playing on his lips, his relief palpable.
Kallie smiled to herself, amused by his reaction.
âYou know, you could try trusting me a little more,â she said, her expression turning serious.
Kallie could feel the invisible wall Jake had erected between them. Despite his undeniable affection for her, he held back, unable to fully trust her. That wasnât the kind of relationship she wanted. She believed that whatever their history, they should trust each other now that they were together. She wasnât entirely sure if she could trust him completely, but she was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Jake met her gaze, a wave of unfamiliar emotions washing over him.
âI donât want to talk about this right now,â he said, his voice tight.
âWe can discuss it later.â
Kallie sensed his reluctance. Though disappointed, she wasnât angry. She gently wrapped her arms around his neck.
The video conference was drawing to a close.
As soon as the meeting ended, Jake acted on his desire. He scooped Kallie into his arms and carried her toward the nearby lounge.
Kallie understood his intentions immediately, her cheeks flushing crimson as she playfully protested, âJake, put me down! Donât you have work to do? Let me go. Iâm starving.â
A playful grin spread across Jakeâs face as he held her close, ignoring her protests.
âWork can wait. Nothingâs that pressing right now.â
Kallie, unable to wriggle free, shot him several annoyed glares. If it werenât for Kallieâs rumbling stomach, they might have skipped dinner altogether.
After their intimacy, Kallie devoured her food with gusto, an unusual sight for Jake.
Beside her, Jake couldnât help but feel a twinge of unease.
