Chapter 154
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Kallie turned her phone screen toward Boris. âYour cousin isnât fond of deceitful people. If your feelings are real, thereâs no need to prove anything. Heâll see it in time. After all, actions speak louder than words.â
Borisâ gaze flickered, as if he had learned something from Kallieâs words. âI get it. Thanks for the advice.â
Boris then shifted the conversation casually. âSo, why are you with my cousin these days? Iâm not implying anything. Itâs just that Iâve heard some rumors and Iâm a little concerned about you. Maybe it would be safer if you didnât go out for a bit. If the Reeves catch up with you, it could cause trouble for my cousin.â
Kallie studied Borisâ face. Judging by his expression, he seemed genuinely concerned for Brent. She quickly typed her response, âDonât worry. Iâm not planning to stay with the Hayes family for long. Iâll be leaving soon.â
âOh, I see,â Boris responded, his smile broadening as his suspicions were confirmed. Kallie had indeed escaped.
Boris actually had no idea about what had happened. He had just learned that Brent and Jake had a recent falling out. The details, however, remained shrouded in mystery. Given Kallieâs ties to Jake, Boris speculated boldly.
Boris slowed his steps, observing Brent converse with the client. A cold laugh escaped his lips. He no longer held any expectations of Brent. It might be time to seek a new ally. Boris had been pondering over potential candidates. Now, an idea struck him.
Your imagination starts at g Ɐ ln Ï Î½ð ðsâ¤conn Brent massaged his temples, feeling a headache brewing. He was taken aback that a mere manager from the clientâs company dared to speak to him so boldly. But he was out of options. All he wanted was to understand the clientâs grievances. If he could resolve those, he was prepared to make concessions.
The manager lifted his chin with a smug air. âMr. Hayes, how about we share a meal, and then Iâll consider discussing matters? Just so you know, I might ask for a favor. I hope youâre not too hesitant.â
Brentâs eyelid twitched, and his expression chilled. âAs long as you keep your requests reasonable, Iâll handle it right away. Just remember what you promised.â
With those words, Brent turned and strode off, his face set in a stern mask.
As Brent departed, Boris approached the manager.
The manager, shedding his earlier arrogance, approached Boris with a touch of urgency. âHow did it go? Can we really pull this off?â
âAbsolutely,â Boris replied with confidence. âIâve sent over photos and other evidence. Heâs definitely on his way. Just stay positive, and youâre set for a bright future. Just donât forget our deal when the time comes.â
Soon, it was time for the scheduled meeting. Brent had planned to send Irene and Kallie home first. However, chaos erupted.
The main problem was the overbearing manager. His constant demands were overwhelming.
When Brent finally caught a moment to breathe, he noticed how much time had elapsed. He couldnât just send Kallie home after making her wait so long.
As Brent and Kallie stepped into the chamber, a sense of worry clouded Brentâs face.
Brent said solemnly, âIf the manager asks you to drink, just ignore him. This matter is between him and me. Donât compromise your well-being for my issues. If you ever feel uneasy and want to leave, let me know straight away. Irene will escort you. Please, donât wander off alone. Iâm concerned I canât locate you quickly if anything were to happen. And remember, take extra care with your pregnancy.â
Brentâs thoughts drifted to the family doctorâs advice. Kallieâs health was fragile, her pregnancy necessitating vigilant care. A miscarriage was a dreadful possibility, and the risks could escalate to life-threatening.
Kallie offered a grateful smile, her expression softening. She understood Brentâs worries were driven by a protective, brotherly affection. Such a bond was comforting. It didnât weigh her down.
Unbeknownst to them, Jake observed the seemingly affectionate scene from a short distance.
Although he couldnât make out their words clearly, fragments like âpregnancyâ and âtake care of yourselfâ reached his ears.
These snippets, paired with the anonymous photo he had received, a snapshot capturing Kallie and Brent sharing a meal and both radiating happiness, particularly Kallie, intensified Jakeâs discomfort.
Jake struggled to recall when he had last seen Kallie so relaxed and joyful.
It seemed that only in Brentâs presence could she truly unwind. Did she trust Brent this much? Moreover, was the baby growing inside her Brentâs? When did all this start between them?
The more Jake dwelled on these thoughts, the more unsettled he became, the surge of rage building within him once again.
Noticing the lethal glint in Jakeâs eyes, Edgar leaned in and softly reminded him, âMr. Reeves, since youâre meeting Kallie today anyway, why not ask her your questions directly?â
Jake merely grunted, holding back from barging in right away.
Brent had already taken care of everything. He settled into a seat, graciously accepting several drinks, hoping the manager would reveal something.
However, the manager, previously brimming with confidence, now hesitated. âI canât divulge much about this matter. It concerns the companyâs secrets, and it wouldnât be appropriate for me to reveal anything. Moreover, even if you were to press me, it wouldnât alter the situation. The error has been made, and no amount of talking will rectify it. You might consider other strategies to gain favor with my boss.â
It dawned on Brent that he had been duped. He shot up from his seat, seized the managerâs collar, and was on the verge of throwing a punch.
The manager, petrified and trembling, hurriedly said, âMr. Hayes, I assure you I havenât deceived you. Iâm unaware of the reasons, but someone else knows. As I mentioned earlier today, if youâre willing to offer something, heâll surely disclose the information.â
Brentâs laughter was tinged with frustration. âDo you enjoy playing tricks on me? I might face a minor business setback, but handling someone like you is a breeze for me. Did you even consider how youâd meet your end before showing up here? No worries if you didnâtâIâll figure it out for you.â
The color drained from the managerâs face as panic set in. He made a desperate gesture toward Boris.
Boris didnât dare say anything and tried to fade into the background. Things didnât go as he planned. He had sent so much âevidenceâ of Brent and Kallie to Jake. What man could tolerate this?
Plus, Kallie was now by Brentâs side, together in the same chamber, while Jake was conspicuously absent despite his knowledge of their presence, shirking confrontation.
As Boris was getting anxious, a chilling voice cut through from the doorway. âMr. Hayes, letâs not escalate this. Not everything heâs told you is a lie.â
