Chapter 416
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Charlee continued pressing Kallie. Perhaps sensing Kallieâs reluctance to meet, Charlee sent another message. âIâm sorry to bother you. I just feel a bit uneasy. Itâs my fault my daughter turned out this way, despite my best efforts. It is alright if youâre busy today. I hope to apologize in person when youâre free.â
Perhaps because they were both single mothers managing on their own, Kallie could empathize with Charleeâs plight, which made her feel sympathetic toward Charlee.
Kallie finally texted back, âIâll come to meet you. Could you send me the address?â
Kallie left without informing Jake or Sophie. Given Charleeâs delicate position, Kallie preferred not to involve others, feeling it could complicate things. However, Kallie hadnât anticipated running into Lenny on her way out.
Lenny hurried over to Kallie, blocking her path. âDonât leave just yet. I need to talk with you.â
As soon as Kallie noticed the frown on Lennyâs face, she could tell he was about to stir up trouble. She wasnât in the mood to argue with him, so she forced a polite smile and said, âMaybe another time. I have something I need to take care of; Iâll be heading out.â
But Lenny, trailing closely behind Kallie, wasnât about to let it go. His tone was stubborn as he said, âNo matter what you think, Iâm going to say what I need to today. If you donât want to talk to me, then just follow you wherever you go.â
Kallie sighed, feeling trapped and helpless. Since when did Jake become so patient, even willing to take a rebellious teenager like Lenny under his wing? Judging by Lennyâs stubborn demeanor, Kallie had no doubt that he could follow through on his word.
Not wanting to drag things out any longer, Kallie decided it was better to just get it over with. She stopped in her tracks, her expression turning cold. âAlright, go ahead. Youâve got five minutes. I have something to say to you as well.â
Lenny crossed his arms over his chest, his chin lifting slightly in a show of arrogance. âI just want to tell you that you should stay away from Jake. He already has someone whoâs perfect for him. If you really care about him, youâll stop bothering him. You probably donât know this, but when our big boss passed away, he betrothed his daughter to Jake. She even saved his life. Theyâre a perfect match. If it werenât for you, Jake wouldnât have come back; he would have married her.â
Kallieâs brow furrowed at his words. She hadnât expected that Jake would be so highly regarded, even by people abroad. But as she pondered about it, she found it made sense. Jake had attracted a great deal of womenâs attention since his childhood. Girls smitten with him was no surprise.
Yet Kallie hadnât expected that things between Jake and another woman had progressed to the point of marriage. A strange feeling welled up inside her, and her gaze grew colder. Kallie said, her voice icy, âListen up, I didnât ask him to concern himself with my issues. If you can persuade him to leave me alone and go back, by all means, do it. Itâs not me whoâs trying to get close to him. Iâve told you before that I just want to live a peaceful life.â
Lenny, caught off guard and unable to come up with a counterargument, blushed with frustration. He finally stammered, âBut⦠You could just refuse him. If you donât, it looks like youâre playing hard to get. Iâm warning you: stay away from him.â
Kallieâs patience snapped, and she took a step closer to Lenny. Her approach was enough to make Lenny retreat a few steps, fear flickering in his eyes. âI donât need to prove anything to you,â Kallie said coldly. âIf youâre confident, then go ahead and make him leave me alone. Why should I be the one to refuse him? This has nothing to do with me.â
Lenny gritted his teeth in frustration and spat out, âJust you wait! My lady will be back soon, and sheâll make a mistress like you get what you deserve!
