Chapter 454
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Jennyâs face hardened. She was done with maintaining a facade of a golden-hearted woman. She aimed for Tyrone to never reunite with his family.
They could stay strangers forever, for all she cared. Blood ties didnât matter. What mattered was that Tyrone believed in her story. If she could get him to officially recognize her, sheâd step into the role of the Nixon familyâs heiress, no questions asked.
Jenny left in high spirits, humming a tune as she departed.
Meanwhile, after a few more days of leisure with Sophie, Kallie decided it was time to visit Jakeâs company and see what was going on. Though Kallie had enjoyed her time off, she hadnât been idle. She had taken the opportunity to research the local market in Halstead.
The city, steeped in history, was known for its antiques. With its proximity to the sea, it also boasted a thriving pearl fishing industry, giving rise to numerous jewelry companies.
Jakeâs business was one of them. A few years back, his company had been a significant player in the industry, well-regarded and successful.
But recently, it had been dogged by scandal after scandal, leading to a catastrophic mistake that brought it to the brink of collapse.
Reflecting on her bold words earlier in front of Jake, Kallie suddenly felt a twinge of regret. Jake likely had alerted the director before Kallieâs arrival, and as she stepped into the office, the director guided her through the companyâs operations.
Each employee was diligently focused on their tasks. Despite the companyâs expansive layout, there were noticeably few people around.
Before Kallie could voice her observation, the director cleared his throat with an uncomfortable cough. âThings havenât been great lately, so weâve had a few resignations,â he said.
Her brow furrowed in concern, she pressed further, âHow many have left this month?â
With a helpless shrug, the director replied, âAt least thirty.â
Kallieâs eyes widened in surprise. The number was indeed staggering. If this trend continued, the company might face bankruptcy in less than two months. With such a high turnover, attracting new talent seemed increasingly challenging.
âIs there anything else contributing to this?â Kallie inquired.
She recalled Jake hadnât brought it up before her arrivalâhe had no reason to hide it from her. The director hung his head, his voice tinged with remorse.
âMiss, I never intended to hide this from you, but I was left with no choice. The company is hemorrhaging money every month. If this continues, weâll all be out of jobs.
Iâve been forced to coax some employees to resign because we simply canât meet the payroll. Iâm certain Mr. Reeves would shut us down immediately if he found out. Iâm just trying to keep us afloat.â
Kallieâs suspicions had been nearly on point. Hearing the directorâs words, her emotions were a tangle. âI understand. Let me know if anything else comes up.â
The director asked cautiously, âMiss, even if you decide to let me go, I need an answer from you first. Can you do anything to help the company? Iâve dedicated ten years to this place since graduating. The benefits are great, and Iâve never had to work late. I truly love it here. It has been running for so long.â
