Chapter 468
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Reflecting on the hardship she and her grandmother had endured, Ruthâs heart swelled with sadness, guilt, and a growing bitterness. Why did they never stop tormenting her?
Kallie, sensing the depth of Ruthâs despair, stepped forward and handed her a bank card after entering the house.
âUse this to get your grandmother the medical attention she needs. Once the diagnosis is clear, Iâll arrange for the best specialists. Donât worry. Iâll do everything I can to help her, as long as itâs not beyond hope.â
Ruth stared at the bank card in disbelief, Kallieâs sudden gesture of generosity leaving her momentarily stunned. She looked up at Kallie, confusion clouding her eyes before pushing the card back toward Kallie. âI canât take this, not now,â Ruth said, her voice filled with suspicion. âI donât want to get trapped. Iâve had enough trouble in my life without adding more. You donât need to waste your time on someone like me.â
Kallieâs heart ached as she took in Ruthâs frail figure, but she didnât press the issue. Instead, she followed Ruth further into the house.
Just then, a figure darted out from the shadows, wielding a broom.
Before Kallie could react, the broom struck her a few times, catching her completely off guard.
Kallie flinched and looked up to realize it was Ruthâs grandmother, Tilda Patterson, who had struck her.
The frail Tilda stood before Kallie, brandishing the broom with trembling hands, trying to muster a fierce expression.
âLeave us alone! Donât you dare hurt my granddaughter! Get out, or I swear, Iâll make you regret it!â Ruthâs stomach dropped as Kallieâs expression turned unreadable, her face devoid of emotion. Panic welled up inside Ruth, and she quickly stepped in, shielding her grandmother.
âMiss Nixon, please forgive my grandmother; she didnât mean any harm,â she blurted out, her words spilling over each other.
âSo many people have come to make things difficult for me. Some even demanded I apologize to Jenny once again. My grandmother⦠sheâs just terrified.â
Your favorite tales are on gαâηÏνððsâ¤Ã§Ð¾nn Ruthâs voice cracked, the weight of her desperation clear. âI donât need your money. Just donât hurt us. You can leave, and we wonât bother you.â
Kallieâs features softened as she recognized the fear in Ruthâs eyes. She offered a reassuring smile, trying to calm the situation. âIâm sorry if I seemed harsh. I wasnât angry; I was just taken aback by the conditions here. But I meant what I said. Iâm here to help, and I wonât leave until Iâve done that.â
Kallieâs gaze shifted to Ruthâs grandmother, her concern deepening. âYour grandmother needs medical care immediately.â
Ruth tried to protest, but the words wouldnât come. She turned to her grandmother, who was now wracked with a violent cough.
Tildaâs hand fluttered weakly, still trying to shield Ruth, but her strength was nearly gone. âRuth, leave me alone. I donât want their money; I just want you to live a good life,â Tilda said, her voice filled with emotion.
âYouâre a college student, and thatâs more than enough for me. I never had that chance. All I want is for you to have a better future.â
Hearing her grandmotherâs words, Ruthâs resolve hardened. She looked Kallie in the eye and nodded. âIâll tell you everything,â Ruth said, her voice steady. âBut you have to promise to help us financially.â
Tildaâs face flushed with anger, and she raised her hand as if to strike Ruth, but Kallie stepped in quickly, speaking in a calm, soothing tone. âYour granddaughter is doing this to take care of you. Please, donât worry; Iâm here to help, not to hurt. Youâre welcome to stay with us while we talk. If I do anything wrong, you can step in.â
