Chapter 502
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Clayton loosened his clenched fists. Watching the two of them walk away, Clayton ordered his men to keep an eye on Mr. Jack. From this point on, Mr. Jack was barred from showing his face at any banquet or event where he might cross paths with him.
Once they were out of Claytonâs sight, Kallie freed her hand from Jakeâs grip. âYouâre unaffected while I am the one taking the brunt of the curses,â Jake said with a hint of frustration.
Kallie gave a faint smile. âIsnât that what you wanted? Itâs no big deal; I could always go back to Clayton.â
Jake, visibly anxious, gently tried to coax her. âYou know I didnât mean that.â
Kallie understood what Jake meant. She decided not to dwell on those words and deflected by changing the subject. Just then, a woman charged at them.
The woman darted swiftly, and Kallie barely registered her presence before they nearly stumbled over each other.
Kallie stumbled, and Jake quickly steadied her, but the woman wasnât as fortunate and fell awkwardly to the floor, drawing curious glances from the crowd. After regaining her balance, Kallie stared down at the woman, sensing she looked familiar.
The woman wore mismatched sportswear, quite out of place amidst the well-dressed guests, yet she still looked incredibly beautiful. Amid the growing stares, the woman began to cry, her voice laced with distress.
Kallie suddenly recognized her. She was the same woman who had shown up at the racecourse in a formal dress that morning, and now she was here in sportswear. Kallieâs expression soured. She had assumed this woman was naive but determined, yet now she seemed foolish.
Observing Kallieâs reaction, Jake leaned closer to her, asking in a low voice, âDo you know her?â
Pursing her lips, Kallie shook her head. âJust go. I prefer to stay out of this.â
Before they could move, the woman grabbed Kallieâs leg. âMiss, you canât just walk away. You have to explain yourself!â
Kallie frowned, sensing trouble. âMiss, you have to be reasonable. What do you expect from me?â
The woman continued crying, her voice quivering with accusation. âYou told me to wear this outfit, and now theyâre telling me to leave! I donât hold any grudge against you. What did I ever do to deserve this?â
Kallie almost laughed at the absurdity. What a foolish woman!
âDo you dress without considering where youâre going? I only suggested the long dress was inappropriate during the day at the racecourse. I didnât mean for you to show up here like this. Donât you think itâs time you comprehended the rules better?
When I gave you a heads-up earlier, I had the best intentions, but you accused me of targeting you. Tell me, what exactly do I gain from doing that?â
The womanâs eyes were filled with tears, making her appear more vulnerable.
Jake said coldly, his voice laced with disdain, âKallie, youâre being far too patient. Just have someone kick this annoying woman out.â
