Chapter 504
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

The following day marked Sophieâs release from the hospital. Kallie made her way to the hospital early. Unexpectedly, at the wardâs entrance, she spotted two familiar faces: Jake and Clayton.
The two men kept their distance, focusing their attention on Sophie while ignoring each other, yet their occasional glances exchanged sharp tensions in the air. Kallie understood Jakeâs presence; he had reasons to be there. But Claytonâs appearance puzzled her.
Approaching with a slight frown, Kallie addressed Clayton politely. âI hadnât anticipated your visit. Thank you for coming to see my daughter.â
Clayton gently stroked Sophieâs hair, offering a warm smile. âIâve met her previously, and she truly charmed me. I wanted to visit her again today.â
Sophie, beaming, looked up at her mother. âMommy, Clayton is so kind.â
Kallie, taken aback, hesitated before asking, âDo you like Clayton?â
Sophie began to reply, âYesââ but before she could finish, Jake swiftly lifted her into his arms, steering her away from Claytonâs reach. Claytonâs smile momentarily stiffened before he quickly recomposed himself.
Jake, feigning displeasure, challenged, âSophie, didnât you promise that youâd only say that to me?â
Sophie paused to consider his words and, finding them reasonable, revised her statement. âOkay, then Clayton is the second best. The top spot is reserved only for you.â This comment visibly irked Clayton, who glared at Jake with displeasure.
âYou need to stop threatening a child,â Clayton said.
Unyielding, Jake snapped back, âDid you actually see me threaten anyone?â
As tensions mounted between the two, Kallie, feeling helpless, intervened to defuse the situation and protect Sophie. Turning away from Jake, Clayton addressed Kallie with a gentle smile. âKallie, Iâve organized a small celebration for Sophieâs discharge from the hospital. Letâs go and have some fun.â
Kallie offered a remote smile in response. âThatâs thoughtful but unnecessary. Sheâs just been discharged, and the doctor recommended rest. Weâd rather not go out.â
As Jake brushed past Clayton, his shoulder collided sharply with him. âLet me drive you home,â he said bluntly.
Kallie glanced at Jake, chose to ignore his offer, and walked away cradling Sophie. Clayton seized the chance to taunt, âSee? She doesnât even want to speak with you.â
Jake responded with a calm demeanor, âItâs fine. She hasnât made any promises to you, either.â
âYou!â Clayton spat out, his anger palpable as he stormed off.
Jakeâs gaze grew icier by the moment. Edgar intervened, whispering to Jake, âThe Turner Group is still in partnership with the Morgan Group. If you lash out at Clayton, Kallie might be displeased.â
Reluctantly, Jake curbed his anger, managing only a helpless smile. âHere I am, Sophieâs father, yet Iâm being humiliated by another man. Iâve never felt so aggrieved.â
Edgar opened his mouth to speak but reconsidered, biting his tongue instead. âYou really brought this on yourself,â he muttered.
