Chapter 538
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Sophie frantically shook her head, cowering behind Kallie. Her voice was a frightened whisper. âMommy, sheâs not telling the truth. I didnât break anything. I was right behind you the whole time.â
A shadow fell over Kallieâs expression. She leveled her gaze at Saniya. âSaniya, if youâre going to make such serious accusations, you need to have proof. You canât just blame someone without evidence.â
Saniyaâs lip quivered as she pointed directly at Sophie. âIt was definitely her! She told me she was jealous of my beautiful things and yanked the box out of my hands. I didnât even see it coming. The next thing I knew, the box was on the floor. How can a child harbor so much spite?â
Sophie was on the verge of tears. âMommy, I swear it wasnât me.â
Ignoring Saniyaâs accusations, Kallie calmly surveyed the room, seeking validation. âDid anyone see Sophie anywhere near her?â
Debbie hesitated before speaking. âFrom my perspective, Sophie was always a step behind you, Kallie. Itâs likely just a misunderstanding.â
Frustrated, Saniya snapped, âSomeone snatched the box right out of my hands! These items were gifts from my boyfriend. Theyâre expensive! Why would I break them myself?â
Debbie, lacking concrete evidence, shot a concerned look at Kallie. As merely a college student, Debbie often felt overshadowed by the more assertive personalities around her.
Elaine was at a loss. She hadnât seen Sophie approach Saniya, but Saniyaâs account sounded convincing. Perhaps the incident had slipped past her. After all, Sophie might have snatched the box when no one was paying attention.
Due to Saniyaâs usual kindness, Elaine found it difficult to question her integrity. Mentally chastising herself for her momentary doubts about Saniya, Elaine stepped forward and cleared her throat.
âSophie is just a child, and itâs natural for children to be a bit unruly,â Elaine said diplomatically. âSaniya is understandably upset. Sophie apparently misbehaved and refused to apologize. Thatâs not proper behavior. Kallie, as her mother, itâs your responsibility to guide her. Apologize to Saniya. While sheâs angry now, your apology might defuse the situation.â
Kallieâs face darkened. âIndeed, proper guidance is essential.â She caressed Sophieâs hair gently as the girl blinked back tears.
âMommy, I truly didnât do it. Do you trust me?â Sophie asked hesitantly, her eyes filled with desperation.
Kallieâs stern expression softened into a warm smile. âOf course, my love. I know you well. And remember, you should never apologize if youâre not at fault. Do you understand?â
Sophie nodded, tears clinging to her lashes, while Saniyaâs eyes widened in shock. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she clutched Elaineâs hand tightly.
Speculative whispers filled the air:
âOh, goodness. Can you believe how sheâs raising her child?â
âWhat kind of adult will this little girl turn into? Despite her cute appearance now, with such a shameless motherâ¦â
âMaybe the child really is innocent. Iâve seen the replay, and sheâs consistently polite.â
âLike mother, like daughter. Always pretending. Theyâre utterly insincere.â
