Chapter 584
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Jakeâs expression was one of mock confusion. âI donât, but I mustâve been wrong somehow. Please spare my life. Punish me however you see fit.â
Griffin rubbed his temples, exhaustion evident in his tone. âGet up. I know youâre loyal, probably the most loyal among my men. You told me you suspected Kallie of colluding with an insider. It seemed we acted too hastily, being carried away by the urge to claim credit before we had proof. Now, weâve tipped off the enemy. Weâre back to square one.â
Griffin slapped the armrest of his chair in annoyance.
Jake stood up, the dangerous glint in his eyes fading just as quickly as it had appeared. So, he hadnât been exposed. Jake forced a reassuring smile. âDonât be angry. We can still find out who tipped her off. Youâll see. Give it a few days.â
Griffin sneered, leaning back, âItâs not that simple. My fatherâs furious. If I keep pushing, that traitor will use my fatherâs authority to shut me down.â
Jakeâs eyes gleamed with subtle calculation. âI might have a lead. Kallie is clever, always hiding behind the obvious. She wouldnât pass information to someone sheâs close to because it was too risky. So, we can rule out those close to your father.â
âThat makes sense.â Griffinâs curiosity piqued. âContinue.â
Jake continued analyzing. âPeople who oppose her are more suspicious. Ultimately, if the plan fails, she wonât be implicated, and the other party can hide behind the chaos.â
Griffin frowned, deep in thought. âThe person who dislikes her the most on this island is me. I want her babies, but something about her doesnât sit right with me. Sheâs restless and unpredictable. A woman like her should be killed!â
Jake listened in silence. Immediately after Griffin uttered the last line, a flash of lethal intent crossed his face but disappeared too quickly for Griffin to notice.
Griffin sighed. âBy your logic, the most suspicious person is me.â
Jake shook his head. âThatâs impossible. There must be others who donât get along with her. But thatâs just my observation. Iâm sure you have already suspected someone.â
Griffin stroked his chin thoughtfully, lost in contemplation. âI did, actually, but I doubt itâs possible. Still, what you said makes some sense. Either way, it doesnât matter.â
A sinister smile crept across Griffinâs face as a thought struck him. âI have my ways of testing it.â
Kallie and her babies were safe.
Though it was only fear that gripped her, Kallie had suffered a lot. Her body was far more fragile than she had ever realized. After the pain subsided, an overwhelming fatigue followed.
Kallie lay on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, the remnants of tears staining the corners of her eyes. They werenât from emotional pain. It was sheer physical pain and exhaustion.
The familiar sound of footsteps reached Kallieâs ears.
âYou shouldnât take such risks,â Jake murmured as he sat beside her, gently brushing strands of hair from her forehead. âDonât worry. I donât have any bugs on me today. Griffin trusts me.â
