Chapter 585
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Kallie let out a sigh, her hand instinctively resting on her swollen belly. âThe doctor said that even a small scare could be dangerous. But if I donât take risks, our chances of escaping from here together will shrink. Jake, I donât think we can make it. Iâm losing hope.â
Kallie turned to face him, her eyes clouded with both pain and doubt. âMaybe itâs best if you take the babies and leave. Iâve thought about it and decided so.â The room fell heavy with silence.
Jake shot to his feet, his voice trembling with anger. âI wonât abandon you! If you canât leave, Iâll stay with you, even after the babies are sent away. I canât lose you, Kallie. I canât live without you anymore!â
Kallie reached for Jakeâs hand, her grip weak but steady. âPlease, Jake, calm down. We need to talk it through.â Jake sat back down, still seething but listening.
Kallieâs face was pale, the toll of her confinement evident in the way her body had begun to lose weight.
Despite Jake picking up some massage techniques and learning about prenatal care, it wasnât enough to make Kallie comfortable.
This area was not where Kallie could welcome the babies into the world in peace.
Kallie gently placed Jakeâs hand on her belly, her expression filled with quiet determination.
Jake felt the rhythmic pulse of the babies within Kallieâs womb, a symphony of life echoing through her body. Kallie had been pregnant for several months, and the childrenâs heartbeat was undeniable.
The cold edge in Jakeâs demeanor softened. His touch grew tender, afraid of causing Kallie any discomfort.
Kallie offered a faint smile, her voice soft yet steady. âIâm not scared. What Iâve been through with the Nixon family was far worse. And there is a difference now because youâre here with me.â
She reached for his hand, squeezing it. âJake, these are your babies. Iâve made my decision. Iâm going to bring them into this world. We have to protect them.â
Jakeâs breath hitched, momentarily overwhelmed by emotion. Shaking his head, he responded firmly, âYou and Sophie are all I care about. Your life means more to me than the babies youâre carrying. Theyâre just two tiny embryos right now. How could they ever be more important than you?â
Jake tightened his grip on her hand, a wave of fear crashing over him, as though if he let go, she might disappear forever.
Kallie felt warmth flood her chest, a sense of comfort in Jakeâs presence. Yet, she had to face the weight of her own choices. She knew there was no turning back now. With a steadying breath, Kallie looked him in the eyes. âYou stick to the plan. But promise me that if it gets too dangerous, and thereâs no other way out, you must leave with the babies. No matter what happens to me, you have to save them. If you donât, Iâll never forgive you.â
Jakeâs expression crumbled with heartbreak. He opened his mouth to protest, but the sudden sound of urgent knocking interrupted him.
A familiar, icy voice echoed from the doorway. âAre you two still awake? Itâs late. What secrets are you whispering about?â
