Chapter 616
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Sweat dripped from his brow.
âKallie!â Clayton shouted as he ran to her.
When Clayton saw Kallie standing there unharmed, he let out a relieved sigh. âNot long after you left, I heard about the incident. I came as fast as I could. But there was a massive sandstorm, and I couldnât find a guide willing to risk it. Am I too late?â
Claytonâs eyes were filled with guilt as he looked at Kallie. Kallie fought back tears, her voice thick with emotion. âCan you please ask the guides to help me search? Jake and Chloe are missing.â
Clayton sprang into action the moment he heard her words.
Clayton took Kallie and Calvin to the closest town to keep them safe, just in case another sandstorm hit.
They searched tirelessly from sunset to sunrise but found nothing. Not even a single body turned up.
Kallie remembered the terrifying sandstorms sheâd read about online. Her legs nearly gave out from under her. She was filled with regret. âIf I had known this would happen, I wouldâve stayed with Jake. This is all my fault.â
Claytonâs heart ached for Kallie, seeing her in such agony. âDonât beat yourself up about it. If youâd disappeared with Jake, what would have happened to Calvin? Heâs just a baby. He canât survive without his parents. Donât worry. Iâll expand the search. Weâll find them.â
Kallie looked at Clayton with gratitude. âThank you. Youâve really helped me out a lot lately.â
Clayton shook his head. âDonât mention it. Your distress reminds me of my sister. If only someone had helped her back then, things might have turned out differently.â Claytonâs expression turned somber as he talked about his sister. The mood grew heavy.
Kallie tried to change the subject by asking Clayton if he could find out who attacked them.
To her surprise, Clayton already had the answer. âIt was the Perry family,â he said gravely. âI didnât think theyâd move so fast. They mustâve had people lurking on the island for you to leave.â
âThe Perry family, huh?â Kallieâs voice dripped with hatred as she clenched her jaw. âIâll destroy them, even if itâs the last thing I do!â
Before leaving the island, Jake had sent his men to rescue Saniya. It wasnât easy, and Saniya was badly hurt, but at least she was alive. Now, Saniya was back home, getting medical care.
Even if the Perry family knew where Saniya was, they wouldnât dare make a move. Not yet, anyway. They must be panicking, though. That was why they chased them here.
Claytonâs men continued the search for another week, but there was still no sign of Jake or Chloe. At least they hadnât found any bodies. That meant Jake and Chloe were probably still alive. Kallieâs hope was dwindling. This tiny town was a far cry from Claytonâs luxurious manor, with all its comforts.
