Chapter 640
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Kallie had been drinking heavily for quite some time. Her indulgence was excessive tonight, and soon, a sharp pain gnawed at her stomach.
Startled by Kallieâs obvious discomfort, Linsey quickly offered her help. âLet me help you to the restroom.â But Kallie, struggling to suppress her nausea, pushed Linseyâs hand away.
âNo need. I can handle it myself. Just a bit dizzy, but I can still walk. Donât worry about me. I just need some air,â Kallie said, trying to reassure Linsey.
Reluctantly, Linsey consented to let Kallie go alone.
But as Kallie headed out, Linsey glanced at her watch, making a mental note. If Kallie wasnât back in ten minutes, sheâd go looking for her.
The booming music in the main hall of the bar only added to Kallieâs dizziness and growing irritation.
As the tipsy and gorgeous Kallie stumbled forward, several men saw an opportunity and moved closer with less-than-noble intentions. However, they underestimated her.
As one tried to make his move, Kallieâs hand met his cheek with a forceful slap.
âHey, you!â the man snapped, visibly angered. âWatch it! Do you even know who I am? Iâm not someone you want to mess with.â
Kallie, steadying herself, smirked and replied icily, âOh, really? Then prove it. Just try something, and see if you get slapped again.â
âFine! You asked for it!â he snarled, his anger peaking as he reached out to grab Kallie.
Kallie seized her chance to bite him and quickly melted into the crowd. She hadnât gotten far when a wave of dizziness washed over her.
Uncertain of where to go, Kallie wandered aimlessly. The dense crowd hindered her pursuerâs progress. Yet, her moment of hesitation allowed him to close in.
Feeling footsteps right behind her, Kallieâs panic surged. She grabbed the clothes of a nearby stranger, her voice urgent. âPlease, help me.â
Jake, taken aback by the sudden intrusion, had an impulse to shrug her off. But the fear in her eyes, the slight tremble of her form, held him back. A tear dropped onto his hand. She was definitely crying.
Something stirred in Jakeâs chest. Strangely, he felt no urge to pull away. âMiss?â he inquired gently, a frown creasing his brow. âHave you mistaken me for someone?â
Kallie spun around, pointing at the approaching man. âHe tried to assault me. Could you call the cops?â Jakeâs gaze hardened as he assessed the man.
The man, realizing he was cornered, took a step forward with a defensive lie. âDonât listen to her. Sheâs my girlfriend. Weâre just having an argument.â
âReally?â Jakeâs tone was skeptical. His lips twisted into a sneer as he declared, âItâs quite simple. Iâm going to call the police this instant. If she truly is your girlfriend, then Iâll offer you an apology. However, if she isnât, you might find yourself behind bars for a bit.â
The manâs expression shifted to one of panic.
In a menacing tone, he retorted, âDo you have any idea who I am? Iâm employed by the Morgans, the wealthiest family in the area.â
