Chapter 659
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Clayton stared at Cara in disbelief. âYou must be out of your mind! He nearly choked you, and youâre defending him?â
Caraâs voice was softer now. âI canât help it. I love him. Even if he wanted to kill me, Iâd still hold on.â
Jakeâs cold eyes narrowed as he smirked, his voice dripping with venom. âIf thatâs what you want, Iâm more than willing to keep up this miserable game with you.â
Clayton clenched his fists furiously, wanting to shake some sense into Cara. How could she fail to see that Jake would never love her? Even if she became a better person or more dazzling, Jake would never fall in love with her. He was never truly hers, and love couldnât be forced.
Yet, Clayton was blind to the depths of Caraâs obsession, which ran deeper than he could imagine.
Cara gazed blankly into Jakeâs icy eyes. Suddenly, she burst into laughter. âClayton, did you hear that? He said he wouldnât mind sticking around to keep up this game. That must mean he loves me, right?â
âWhat the hell did you just say?â Clayton exclaimed, shaking his head. âBoth of you must be out of your fucking minds!â
Freeing herself from Claytonâs embrace, Cara fixed her gaze firmly on Jake. Despite his aggressive behavior just moments before, she moved toward him with determined steps. Her self-assurance was palpable. She firmly believed she would win Jakeâs heart one day.
Clayton, observing the lethal glare in Jakeâs eyes, felt an urgent need to intervene. âCausing a scene wonât do any good. Elmaâs right outside, looking forward to some family time. Jake, you donât want her to see you like this, do you?â
Jake shot a frosty look at both Cara and Clayton before turning around and storming off.
Clayton turned to Cara, his expression a mix of frustration and concern. âIf you really canât let Jake go, why not put in more effort to win him over? There are tons of safer ways to keep someone close, but you chose the riskiest one! Do you realize she also cameâ¦?â
Clayton caught himself, abruptly stopping.
Cara, oblivious to Claytonâs near slip, responded sharply, âWhat good would other methods do? Iâm not content with him just being around me. I want his love! Plus, how could I ever hurt him when I love him this much?â
Clayton was rendered speechless for a moment, letting out a heavy sigh. âIâve said my piece. Iâm done intervening.â
Cara snorted, straightening her rumpled clothes. She fixed Clayton with a playful grin. âHow about a bet, Clayton? Think I can charm Jake tonight? Soon, heâll have eyes only for me.â
Claytonâs mind was preoccupied with Kallieâs presence at todayâs festival, barely registering Caraâs challenge. When reality snapped back, he sensed trouble brewing. What was Cara up to now?
Disturbed, Clayton hurried after Cara.
As Jake stepped into the grand hall, the sight of Elma laughing among the servants softened his expression.
âDaddy!â Elma caught his eye and dashed over.
