Chapter 700
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape
Caraâs wild screams echoed down the hall as she was dragged away.
Jake readied himself to leave with Calvin and Elma. Considering the urgency of the situation, the two children needed to be rushed to the hospital fast.
But Clayton halted Jake. âIâll take the kids to the hospital. You stay and watch over Cara. If she escapes, thereâs no telling what chaos sheâll unleash. Moreoverâ¦â
Claytonâs gaze shifted to Calvin, and with a meaningful look, he added, âCalvinâs Kallieâs son. It wouldnât be right for you to take him away.â
Jake felt trapped by Claytonâs reasoning, unable to find the words to protest. Yet, he was concerned about Calvin and Elma. After a moment of hesitation, he finally entrusted the children to Clayton.
With a heavy heart, Jake said quietly, âMake sure theyâre safe. Theyâre just kids. They shouldnât be caught up in all of this.â
âI understand,â Clayton replied earnestly. âOne is my niece and the other is Kallieâs child. Iâll protect them, no matter what. You have my word.â
Jakeâs jaw clenched as bitterness flickered in his eyes, but he had no choice but to trust Claytonâs promise.

When Clayton drove out, the bodyguards quickly stepped aside. Clayton rolled down the window, urgency lacing his voice. âKallie, get in.â
From where she stood, Kallie caught a glimpse of the children in the backseat, and her heart nearly stopped. She clenched her fists, struggling to calm herself.
Kallie got into the car and joined Clayton to take the children to the hospital, where the childrenâs injuries were quickly assessed. Most of the damage was superficial, but Elmaâs condition was worse. She had been beaten so badly that she was bleeding. When the doctor said Elma needed an O-type blood transfusion, Kallie didnât hesitate to volunteer. âMy blood group is O-type,â she said firmly.
To her surprise, Clayton immediately objected. âNo!â
Confused, Kallie stared at him. âWhy not? We canât worry about anything else right now. Her life is at stake.â
Claytonâs gaze flickered, evasive. âYou know how Cara is. If she learns about this, Elma will face even worse when she returns.â
Fury surged through Kallie. She pointed at Elma, battered and bruised. âElmaâs Caraâs mother. How can Cara be so heartless? Even though Elma is adopted, this is beyond cruelty. Clayton, I usually avoid family issues, but the way your family treats Elma is too much.â
Clayton pressed his lips together, his expression conflicted, but his resolve remained firm. âYou canât give her blood. Thereâs more at play here than you realize. I have my reasons. Please, trust me.â
Clayton was Elmaâs uncle. With his insistence, Kallie had no choice but to back down. She frowned and asked, âThen how should she get suitable blood?â
âIâll handle it,â Clayton said, not daring to meet Kallieâs gaze. âElma is my niece. I wonât let anything happen to her.â
With no other options, Kallie reluctantly let it go. She turned away, focusing on Calvinâs condition instead.
