Chapter 713
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Cara wanted to make things difficult for Kallie, but Jake couldnât tolerate Caraâs antics anymore. He had an idea of how to get rid of her, but first, he needed to regain control of the situation. âEnough, Cara,â Jake said firmly. His voice softened slightly. âCan you stop this? You trapped me in that elevator all night to get to her, and I havenât even said a word about it.â
Caraâs eyes darted around. âI wasnât behind the elevator mishap,â she lied.
Jake saw right through her. âThen how did you find out about the elevator mishap so quickly? And that I was stuck in it? You came here because you knew I was at the hospital, didnât you?â Cara was speechless, caught in her own lie.
Jake sighed and gently took her hand. âIâm tired of fighting with you, Cara,â he said wearily. âLetâs just let the past be the past. I want to focus on the present. Just let it go. Letâs forget about last night, okay?â
Caraâs heart fluttered with hope. Although it seemed like Jake was defending Kallie, that was beside the point. Jake had just hinted at moving on and having a future together, marking the first time he had made such a declaration. Could this be the turning point she had been waiting for? Overcome with emotion, Cara squeezed his hand, a surge of optimism coursing through her.
âJake,â Cara whispered his name, her voice quivering, her gaze filled with yearning.
Jake, masking his repulsion with a warm smile, leaned in and murmured into Caraâs ear, âIâve reserved a table for us tomorrow night. Letâs leave Elma at home. We need to talk, just the two of us.â
A flush of excitement colored Caraâs cheeks as she nodded vigorously. It felt as though the life she had always envisioned was finally within her grasp. She had been waiting for this moment for so long, and now, it was unfolding before her.
Despite lingering doubts about Jake and Kallieâs encounter in the elevator the previous night, Cara brushed them aside. Securing Jakeâs affection was all that mattered now. She could handle Kallie later.
Meanwhile, Kallie walked back into the ward, her thoughts swirling in disarray.
Elma was getting better. Her fever had subsided.
Upon arriving, Kallie immediately requested the nurse to move Calvin to a different ward. She knew if Cara saw Calvin and Elma together, trouble would follow.
In the midst of her tasks, Kallieâs eyes fell on Elma, who sat isolated on her hospital bed, a picture of sorrow.
Overcome with pity, Kallie approached and softly patted Elma on the head. âYour dad had a bit of an incident yesterday, but heâs downstairs now. Your momâs here too, and theyâll both be up to see you soon.â
Elma hesitated and then took Kallieâs hand in hers. âIâm sorry for what I said yesterday. Please, donât hold it against me.â
Kallie felt the warmth of Elmaâs touch and was slow to release it. With a gentle smile, she replied, âItâs okay. Iâm not upset. Just try not to be burdened by concerns. The doctor mentioned you need plenty of rest. If youâre feeling off, make sure to tell your parents, okay?â
Elma nodded, a silent promise to heed the advice.
At that moment, Calvinâs belongings were being gathered and moved out.
