Chapter 730
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape
At that moment, it was as if a thunderbolt exploded in Claytonâs mind. Caraâs words hit him like a revelation. He stammered, âHow⦠How did you figure this out?â
With a mocking laugh, Cara played the recording for him.
After Clayton listened, Cara completely lost her composure. She began to destroy everything around her, her voice rising in furious shouts. âWhy? I trusted you the most. Why trick me like this? Why did you do this to me for that despicable woman, Kallie? I thought Jake and I could be happy together, with you being my most trusted family. I was ready to spend my life with you, but you plotted to lock me away. How absurd!â
Cara had been suppressing her feelings since the day before. She was never one to hold back. Now, overwhelmed with rage, she let it all out. Just as she was on the brink of happiness, a harsh truth shattered everything. It had all been a charade, and she, the unsuspecting fool, was ensnared in the deception.
Claytonâs hands balled into fists, his heart torn between fear and sorrow. He watched as Cara spiraled into madness, yet he remained silent.
Cara spun around and delivered a resounding slap to Claytonâs face.
Tears mingled with laughter as she confronted him. âClayton, I was grateful to you. After my rescue, when everyone taunted and condemned me, you stood by my side. But why? Am I truly inferior to that despicable woman, Kallie? I am your sister.â Struggling for words, Clayton finally said, âItâs precisely because youâre my sister that I canât bear to watch you continue down this path. Cara, canât you see? Jake doesnât love you. Itâs not too late to move on. The drug I gave Jake will ensure he wonât remember Kallie for the rest of his life. Just let him leave with Elma. Iâve promised to hide them where theyâll never be found, away from you and Kallie. Iâll find someone better for you.â
Caraâs gaze hardened with scorn. âJake might have forgotten her, but havenât you noticed? He falls for her over and over again. Why is that?â
Clayton had no answer. Memories flooded his mind suddenly. Jakeâs gaze toward Kallie had always been complex. Clayton hadnât grasped it until now. Jakeâs gaze on Kallie held unmistakable love. Jake himself probably failed to understand why he had fallen so deeply for Kallie once again.
Despite their previous efforts, Clayton and Cara had failed to stop Jake and Kallie from falling in love.
Without hesitation, Cara confronted Clayton. âDonât assume Iâm clueless. You claim itâs all for me, but itâs just feeding your selfish needs. Are you smitten with Kallie, arenât you? You just want to win her over!â
Clayton instantly struggled and denied it. âThatâs absurd.â
Cara scoffed. âYou know the truth quite well. Get real! Youâll never end up with Kallie. That woman only has eyes for Jake and will never love another. It seems weâre both destined to love hopelessly.â
Clayton wrestled against the ropes for a long while in vain, breathing heavily.
Cara gazed down at him, her face a mix of emotionsâanger, pity, and, predominantly, sorrow. âDo you know where I picked up these skills for tying people up? It was the Perry family. They did this to me. I endured so much back then. Now, all I want is a quiet life with the man I love. Is that wrong?â
Sensing Cara might escalate the situation, Clayton attempted to calm her. âCara, I was mistaken. I wonât assist Jake any longer. I promise. Just let me go, will you? Now that the scheme plotted by Jake and I is out in the open, thereâs no sending you away, is there?â
