Chapter 742
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Cara responded with a cool tone, âIâm warning you, donât try any tricks.â
Kallie scoffed. âEveryone here is loyal to you. What harm could I possibly do to you?â
Prompted by Kallieâs remark, Cara stood and approached her, maintaining a careful distance. She crossed her arms and pressed, âSo, who have you chosen?â
Kallie glanced again at Sophie, then at Elma, and declared, âI choose Elma. She is innocent, and you should release her.â
Caraâs eyes widened, a mix of amusement and disbelief coloring her tone. âYou would forsake your own daughter, Kallie? Are you out of your mind?â
Pain flickered across Kallieâs face. âSophie understands why I made this decision because she is my daughter.â
Upon hearing this, Sophie ceased her struggles and released a relieved sigh. She was grateful her mother had chosen to save her sister. Elma had endured too much, and she shouldnât die this way.
Sophie harbored no resentment toward Kallie. Kallieâs love for her was real, and Kallie must have her reasons for making this choice.
Caraâs interest waned, her gaze turning colder. She had anticipated Kallie would choose Sophie.

Cara had been eager to watch Kallieâs painful expression, intending to derive pleasure from it. However, she hadnât expected Kallie to choose Elma over Sophie.
Cara was somewhat frustrated. Was the bond of blood truly that influential? Even without mutual recognition of their relationship, there was still an inexplicable pull between Elma and Kallie. âWhy? She wouldnât allow it.â
âCara, Iâve made my choice. Can you let Elma go now?â Kallie said.
âAlright.â Caraâs smile twisted oddly as she turned and signaled to her men.
Elma was immediately freed.
As Elma approached slowly, Kallieâs heart raced uncontrollably. As Elma neared the shore, Cara was already poised to push her into the water unseen.
But suddenly, Jakeâs voice halted everything. âCara, stop.â
Cara turned to find Jake with a knife at Keelyâs throat. That explained his unexpected appearance.
Keelyâs eyes, wide with terror and pleading, met Caraâs as she implored, âPlease save me.â
âSuch a loser!â Cara snorted coldly, casting a glance at Jake as she said, âKill her as you wish. I wouldnât be bothered by that.â Keely looked at Cara in stunned disbelief, her loyalty apparently misplaced.
To everyoneâs surprise, Jake released Keely, his expression cold but his eyes betraying deep disgust toward Cara. âI never intended to harm her. I just needed to see you,â he declared. His statement could have seemed ambiguous, but his tone was emotionless and firm.
Cara, feeling a sharp sting in her heart, trembled as she confronted him. âJake, donât pretend. Iâm aware of your dealings with Clayton. Iâve been so good to you. Why this betrayal?â
Jake stepped closer, resolute. âSince my plan with Clayton falters, I accept full responsibility. Why must you harm the innocent? Release them, and Iâll do as you ask from now on.â
