Chapter 783
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

The man winced in pain but quickly plastered a fake smile on his face. âI think this woman is up to no good. Iâm afraid she might hurt you.â
The woman scoffed. âI know exactly what youâre trying to pull. Move aside. Iâm keeping her.â
The man glanced at Kallie, a flicker of regret in his eyes. But he didnât dare disobey the woman, so he reluctantly let go of Kallieâs hand.
âWhat do you want us to do now?â the man asked. âShould we still go upstairs?â
The woman shook her head and turned to Kallie, a chilling smile spreading across her lips. âNo need. Iâve found who Iâm looking for. You all can leave.â
At the womanâs words, Kallie felt a wave of relief wash over her. For now, Elma and Calvin were safe.
The woman motioned for Kallie to join her on the only sofa that hadnât been damaged in the chaos. The hall was a mess, but the woman didnât seem to mind. She crossed her legs elegantly and took a sip of coffee, as if she had all the time in the world. She was polite to Kallie, but her politeness only made Kallie nervous.
Kallie had met all kinds of people in her life, and she knew better than to trust someone just because of a polite facade.
Just as Kallie suspected, the womanâs next words revealed her cruel nature. âYouâre Kallie, arenât you? So, tell me about your relationship with Clayton. Where is he? I should warn you, I detest liars and have plenty of ways of making them tell the truth. Surely, you donât want to experience my methods.â
After this, the woman propped her chin with her hands, smiling at Kallie.
Kallie didnât let her nerves show. âI donât know where Clayton is. And I think youâve got the wrong idea about my relationship with him. Weâre just friends. Heâs a young, good-looking guy, and Iâm a mother of three. Heâs not interested in me. Besides, I have a husband.â
The womanâs face changed, and she suddenly burst into laughter. Her laughter was sharp and unpleasant. âHey, donât rush to distance yourself from him. The more you try to convince me, the more I think something is going on between you two.â
Kallie looked the woman straight in the eye. âThereâs nothing between him and me. Do you understand?â
The woman stared hard at Kallie, searching for any signs of deception. Finally, she snorted and leaned back. âFine. Then tell me where Clayton is.â
Kallie shook her head. âI donât know,â she said.
Alarmed by the dangerous glint in the womanâs eyes, Kallie quickly added, âBut if you explain why you need to see him and what you plan to do, I can help you contact him. Please understand that he is a cautious man. He wonât agree to meet without a good reason.â
The woman nodded, seemingly finding Kallieâs words sensible. âClayton once messed with my men. I confronted him before, but he never properly apologized. But now, I donât care about an apology anymore. Iâve taken a liking to him.â
The woman spoke with an air of confidence, her eyes gleaming with determination. She seemed utterly convinced she could win Clayton over.
Kallieâs mind flashed back to her stolen handbag and how Clayton had helped her retrieve it. So, that was how he had messed with the gang. But how could these gangsters act with such blatant disregard for the law?
The woman grew impatient when she saw Kallieâs frown and silence. âWhy are you just sitting there? You promised to contact him for me. If you donât call him right now, Iâll take matters into my own hands.â
