Chapter 785
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

At this thought, Freyaâs gaze on Kallie chilled further. Yet, instead of acting out, she just waved dismissively. âLeave now.â
Freya was convinced that she could win Claytonâs heart over Kallieâs.
Kallie, unfazed, picked up Sophie and took her upstairs. The rest was for Clayton to handle.
Hours passed. At midnight, Kallie heard a knock at the door. Opening it, she was surprised to find Clayton standing there.
Clayton looked worn out, clearly having dealt with Freya. âDonât worry,â he said, managing a weary smile. âShe wonât bother you again.â
âItâs alright. I know itâs not your fault,â Kallie replied softly. After all, if her handbag hadnât been snatched by those gangsters, Clayton wouldnât have intervened on her behalf and later attracted Freyaâs attention. She planned to leave this place right after Sophieâs competition.
Kallie thought for a moment before saying, âIf thereâs nothing else, you should go get some rest.â She moved to close the door.
âKallie,â Clayton called out, his eyes holding a trace of hope. âCould you do me a favor?â
Kallie nodded. âWeâre friends, and I owe you. Just say it. You donât need to be so polite.â
Clayton cleared his throat, looking slightly uncomfortable. âYou probably noticed that Freya has feelings for me, but sheâs not exactly a good person. My company has deals with several major firms in the city. If I offend the gang behind Freya, I doubt my goods will leave the port safely. This gang wields significant influence here.â
Kallie didnât doubt his words, as she knew a bit about the situation in this city. She frowned, analyzing. âAre you worried theyâll make things difficult for you? But with the resources we have, we canât take them head-on.â
Clayton shook his head. âNo, they havenât done anything major yet. Just some underhanded tactics messing with my companyâs operations under Freyaâs directives. I could cope with it if it were just occasional, but they have targeted my company consistently. Freya is the type who wonât stop until she gets what she wants, and sheâs pulling all these stunts just to force me to her side. I need her to stop having feelings for me, and I need this nonsense to end.â
Kallieâs heart skipped a beat as she listened, a suspicion forming. âYou want me to pretend to be your girlfriend, so sheâll back off?â
Clayton nodded, quickly adding, âI know itâs a lot to ask, but Iâm out of options.
My focus hasnât been on the company lately, and the company couldnât afford to lose the deals.
Furthermore, itâs best not to mess with local gangs. You know most of Morgan Groupâs businesses are cross-border.â
Kallie tightened her grip on the doorframe, her expression turning cold. âMr. Morgan, you know I wonât agree to this just for business reasons,â she said firmly.
Clayton wasnât surprised by her reaction, but a hint of bitterness tugged at his smile. âKallie, if there were any other way, I wouldnât be putting you in this position.â
Seeing the troubled look on his face, Kallieâs resolve wavered. She figured she was partly responsible for Freyaâs interest in Clayton. Without Claytonâs timely intervention in reclaiming her handbagâwhich included the invitation to Sophieâs piano competition, an opportunity that only came once every five yearsâSophie would have had to wait another five years for such a crucial chance.
Kallie hesitated. âItâs not that Iâm unwilling, but I already told Freya thereâs nothing between us. If we show up together pretending to be a couple, she wonât believe us.â
