Chapter 786
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Claytonâs face brightened with hope. âSo, youâre willing to help me, right?â
Kallie bit her lip. âIf weâre merely putting on an act and later clarifying things, then I am on board. After all, youâre in this predicament partly because of me.â
Claytonâs smile grew brighter, visibly relieved. âYou wonât have to worry about anything else. Iâve worked with Freyaâs father before. Weâre not close, but we know each other. Thereâs a banquet at their villa soon. If you come with me as my date, itâll make him think weâre together. Then, Iâll reject Freya publicly. With her father there, she wonât make a scene.â
Kallie sighed, feeling the weight of the situation. âThat sounds like our only option.â
Clayton quickly reassured her, âAfter the banquet, Iâll make sure to find a chance to tell everyone weâve broken up, so it wonât cause you any trouble.â
Kallie nodded. âThank you. Iâm a mother of three. I donât want anything like this to affect them.â
Clayton nodded his understanding and asked, âCan I see Elma?â
Kallie didnât refuse.
Elma had been playing all day and had just finished her bath. She was lying on the sofa, looking sleepy. The other children had already gone to bed, but Elma was still waiting for Kallie to join her.
Ever since Elma returned to Kallieâs side, she had clung to Kallie practically 24/7, relishing the motherly love she hadnât experienced when she was younger. She longed to make every minute memorable and slowly forget her previous suffering.
Kallie never grew impatient with such closeness from Elma, more than willing to spend quality time with her daughter.
Noticing that Elma was about to slip off the sofa, Kallie stepped forward and gently scooped her up, settling her into her arms.
Elma snuggled closer, finding comfort in Kallieâs embrace. Clayton crouched down, meeting Elmaâs eyes. âElma, itâs me. I came to visit you,â he said softly.
Elmaâs eyes brightened. âUncle!â
Clayton reached out to gently touch her head. Then, after a moment of thought, he said, âDonât call me uncle anymore. Call me Clayton instead.â
Elma pouted. âWhy? Donât you like me anymore?â
Kallie chimed in, âSheâs used to calling you that. In her heart, youâre her uncle.â
Clayton paused, his hand still resting on Elmaâs head. He shook his head lightly. âShe has a real uncle. Iâm not him, and I shouldnât take that place.â
A brief shadow passed over Kallieâs expression.
Elma glanced between Kallie and Clayton, then shook her head resolutely. âNo. Clayton, youâre my uncle in my heart.â
Kallieâs face lit up with a smile, gently squeezing Elmaâs cheek.
Kallie said to Clayton, âItâs wonderful that she recognizes your kindness. Just let her address you in the same way. Though youâre not blood-related, fate has chosen you as her uncle.â
Since Kallie had said so, Clayton found it hard to object. He quickly looked for an excuse to leave.
As Clayton departed, Elma wrapped her arms around Kallie and looked up at her with curious eyes. âMom, are you not fond of Clayton? If thatâs the case, I wonât go see him as often.â
