Chapter 800
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape
Sometimes, Lacey found herself secretly comparing her own image to Kallieâs, only to feel as though she was always a step behind. Yet, beneath it all, Lacey believed she was more noble than Kallie. While Kallie had relied on a man, Lacey drew strength from her relentless hard work. She often mused that if she had been born into a wealthy family like Kallie, she might have become just like herâ and perhaps she might have even met Jake first.
Lost in thought, Lacey and Jeanette found themselves standing at the entrance of the store. Just as Lacey was about to step inside, she hesitated, a sudden realization hitting her. She frowned slightly and said, âActually, Iâm not a fan of these clothes. Letâs go. They look uncomfortable to wear.â
Jeanette pouted and said, âLacey, youâre lying. I think you want those things. Jake gave us a lot of money. He said itâs what we deserve, and we should treat ourselves better. Heâll give us more in the future, so donât hold back.â
Lacey laughed, shaking her head, but her resolve not to go into the store remained firm. âNo, I really donât like them.â
âFine,â Jeanette replied, lowering her head, no longer pressing the issue.
As Lacey held Jeanetteâs hand, preparing to leave, a mocking voice sliced through the air.
Mâáµ£â ᵤâdââââ áµ¢â gââââáµ¥âââ.ð¸ââ âWhat is that woman doing blocking the entrance? Why doesnât she just go in and buy something?â
âSheâs obviously poor. If she had any money, she would have gone inside by now. So pitiful.â
âJust look at her! She doesnât even know how to dress properly. She looks like sheâs from the countryside, probably clueless about how expensive these clothes are.â
âThat was hilarious, ha-ha.â
The mocking laughter cut through the air like a knife, igniting a fire of anger within Lacey.
For an unknown reason, Laceyâs imagination went wild. In her mind, Kallie stood before her, elegantly dressed, radiating grace and confidence. Kallieâs expression was laced with provocation and sarcasm. âHow pitiful. Did you really think you could compete with me? Just look at yourself. Itâs no wonder Jake isnât interested in you. He will never like you.â
The anger in Laceyâs heart surged like a tidal wave, threatening to drown her rational thoughts.
Suddenly, Jeanette cried out in pain, pulling Lacey back to reality.
Looking at Lacey with wide, aggrieved eyes, Jeanette said, âLacey, my hand really hurts.â Only then did Lacey realize she had been gripping Jeanetteâs hand far too tightly.
âIâm sorry, Jeanette.â A flicker of unease crossed Laceyâs face, but it quickly faded, replaced by fierce determination. âLetâs go in for some clothes.â After saying that, Lacey guided Jeanette inside. The sales staff immediately noticed Lacey the moment she walked in.
The prominent brandâs smooth development was largely due to its unwavering commitment to sales quality. Thus, no one judged a person based on appearances. Even though Laceyâs outfit was simply put together, likely costing no more than two hundred dollars, the staff greeted her warmly. âMiss, what style catches your eye? We have some fresh designs here. Would you like to take a look?â
Lacey felt a flutter of discomfort, sensing the strange, prying gazes around her. Clearing her throat, she replied, âThanks. Iâll just look around on my own. Please donât follow me.â
The staff nodded and responded politely, âJust call us if you need anything.â
