Chapter 810
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Lacey pressed her lips together.
âNot exactly. Iâve only heard a few whispers about her, and now Iâm intrigued to see who she really is.â
This answer seemed to excite Sarah, but she restrained herself from immediately asking more.
Instead, she looked Lacey up and down, noting the simplicity of her attire despite the grandeur of the occasion.
Sarah couldnât quite place Laceyâs true origin.
As Sarah hesitated, a group of men dressed as bodyguards approached them.
Laceyâs gaze fell on them, and she knew immediately that they were Codyâs bodyguards.
The bodyguards approached with a respectful bow.
âMiss Payne, please follow us,â they said in a polite, formal tone.
Lacey nodded in acknowledgement.
She turned to Sarah, concerned, and gently suggested, âMaybe you should see a doctor. You donât look well.â
Biting her lip, Sarah pulled out a business card and handed it to Lacey, whispering, âIf youâre interested in learning more about Kallie, come find me.â
Lacey hesitated for a moment before accepting the card, her hesitation evident.
As Lacey walked away with the others, her heart pounded in her chest.
Sheâd been thinking about how to find out more about Kallie without drawing attention to herself.
Asking around would make it so Kallie couldnât help but notice.
Luckily, her chance had finally come.
Once Lacey was out of sight, Sarah dropped the facade of fragility sheâd been maintaining.
A wild, almost disturbing laugh burst from her mouth.
The memory of Laceyâs look of pity made Sarahâs expression twist with revulsion and irritation.
She hated the sting of the othersâ sympathy directed at her.
What right did they think they had to look at her with pity? It didnât matter, though.
She was sure Lacey would end up being an ally.
Sarahâs laughter faded as her eyes roamed the outline of her frail body, and an overwhelming sadness tugged at her heart, making her want to cry.
Yes, she was sick and painfully aware of her condition.
Her awareness only fuelled her despair and determination.
Resolved, she vowed that before her death, she would make sure she was not alone in her fall.
As Lacey ran to tend to Cody, she passed Kallie.
Their unexpected collision nearly sent Lacey crashing to the ground.
âWatch where youâre walking,â Kallie said, grabbing Lacey before she stumbled.
After making sure Lacey was okay, Kallie offered a soft apology.
âIâm sorry.â
Lacey withdrew her hand from Kallieâs grip silently, her face reflecting a mixture of emotions, and replied in a cold tone.
Unmoved by Laceyâs icy attitude, Kallie simply offered her a warm smile before walking away.
Laceyâs eyes lingered a few moments longer on Kallieâs retreating figure before she turned, prompted by an internal voice.
Lacey thought Kallie wore her mask so well that even the sharpest eyes rarely managed to see through it.
