Chapter 816
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

At that moment, the door burst open.
After treating Cody, Lacey had received a considerable sum of money.
Cody even suggested that she could work for him long-term, as long as she knew what to say to the outside world.
In addition, he promised to fulfil any of her wishes.
Had it been in the past, Lacey would not have been interested in such a proposal.
However, her ambitions had changed.
She wanted more and wanted to get closer to Jakeâs world, hoping that he would one day accept her.
Excited by Codyâs promises, Lacey felt a rush of optimism. Her joy was short-lived, however, when she realized Jeanette was missing.
Frantic questioning revealed that Jeanette might have upset Codyâs daughter, which increased Laceyâs concern.
Laceyâs anxiety only subsided when someone mentioned that they saw Jeanette enter a room accompanied by a woman.
That was the reason for her hasty entrance.
Upon entering, she found Jeanette and Kallie talking animatedly.
Kallie was surprised to see Lacey, but greeted her with a polite smile.
âSo youâre her sister. What a coincidence.â
Jeanette, filled with joy, ran to her sister.
âIâve been waiting for you. When are we going home?â
At the sight of Kallie, Laceyâs initial happiness vanished.
Her expression became intimidating and she clenched her fists without responding to Jeanette.
Confused, Jeanette turned to her sister:
âWhatâs wrong? You look upset. Did someone do something to you? Donât worry. This nice lady can help you.â
Jeanetteâs words hurt Lacey and, for the first time, she lost her temper with her, raising her voice angrily:
âJeanette, what did I tell you about talking to strangers? You ignored my advice, didnât you? If you do this again, I wonât talk to you anymore.â
Jeanette was taken aback.
Lacey, who was usually aloof with others, had always been gentle with her.
It was the first time Jeanette had ever seen Lacey behave so sternly toward her.
Tears began to well up in Jeanetteâs eyes, and she cried out:
âLacey, whatâs wrong?â
Kallie, equally bewildered, stepped in to clarify.
âMiss, youâve misunderstood. I approached your sister after seeing her being harassed and brought her here to help her.
Iâm sorry if this caused any inconvenience, but it really wasnât your sisterâs fault.â
As Lacey listened, her anger only increased.
She grabbed Jeanette behind her and gave Kallie a cold, dismissive look.
