Chapter 834
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

A wave of panic swept over Lacey.
She knew Jake.
Once that stubborn mind made up its mind, there was no changing it.
Nothing he could say would make the slightest difference.
Lacey sighed and nodded.
âFine, do whatever you want.
And donât worry about me or my sister.
Youâve done more than enough for us already.
We owe you big time.â
Jake got up and opened the window.
The cool night air rushed in, bathing Jake in soft moonlight.
His handsome face was now a mask of indifference.
He looked almost ethereal, like an angel bathed in silver light.
âItâs getting late.
You should rest,â Jake said softly.
Lacey nodded silently.
Just as she reached the door, she paused, remembering something important.
She turned back to Jake.
âYouâve probably heard about that rich guy Iâve been treating, right? Well, he seems to like me and invited me to his birthday party.
I saw the guest listâ¦
Kallie will be there too.â
Jake froze, completely taken aback by her words.
He stood there, unable to articulate for a moment.
Lacey watched him intently.
âI know what youâre thinking.
Maybe I can get you into that party.
But itâs risky.
You need to think it through.â
Jakeâs eyes shone with a spark of hope as he looked at Lacey.
âYou think itâs possible? I donât need to meet her face to face.
Just seeing her from afar would be enough.â
Lacey was surprised.
Sheâd never seen that hesitant, almost submissive side of Jake before.
Bitterness twisted her stomach.
Words escaped her.
All she could manage was a hollow laugh and a brief nod.
Relief washed through Jake, and he nodded gratefully.
âThank you for making this possible, Lacey,â he said sincerely.
The moment Lacey closed Jakeâs door behind her, the façade fell away.
The warmth disappeared from his face, replaced by a cold mask.
A spark of possibility ignited inside her.
This could be her chance.
