Chapter 858
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

âMr. Reeves, youâre still as perceptive as ever in figuring it out so quickly.â
A surge of anger surged through Jake before fading into helplessness. He had maintained his pride for so many years, but here he was, backed into a corner. Despair and confusion washed over him for a moment, but he quickly hid them.
âLet me guess. Youâve been following me all this time. And now that youâve found me, you plan to kill me for Kallie, right?â
Clayton nodded slowly and then shook his head. He took a step forward, a playful smile on his lips.
âPartly because of her. But mostly because you know too much. If you go back to her, could you really resist telling her I cheated on her?â
Jake lifted his chin, his voice steady.
âOf course Iâd tell her. Youâre manipulative and backstabbing. You shouldnât be anywhere near her.â
Claytonâs eyes darkened for a moment, but then his smile twisted into something more sinister.
âExactly. Thatâs why I canât let anyone come between me and Kallie.â
Jake clenched his fists.
âNot even if you kill me, sheâll see right through you sooner or later. Donât think sheâs naïve.â
Clayton clicked his tongue, almost amused.
âSo, tell me, Mr. Reeves, can you guess why I showed up here so suddenly, or how my men found you so quickly?â
Jakeâs gaze narrowed as Clayton continued.
âThe moment she saw you, she gave the signal to my men. Your attendance at that foundation event? It was all a ruse to lure you in. She doesnât love you anymore. She loves me.â
Jakeâs clenched fists shook slightly, but he kept his composure.

Jake remembered when Kallie had been so cruelly bullied. Through it all, she never blamed him. After so many years together, Jake and Kallie understood each other without words. He could believe she no longer loved him. But if someone told him she wanted him dead, he wouldnât believe it.
Clayton watched him, impassive.
âHave you ever wondered how I knew youâd be here? How I captured you so quickly?â
That was the part Jake couldnât figure out. Only a few people knew about his schedule. If Clayton had discovered his schedule and tracked him here, why had he waited until now to act?
Jake struggled with his doubts, but in the end, he decided to trust Kallie.
âIâm defeated, trapped by you today. I know I wonât make it out alive. So, if youâre going to kill me or torture me, do it now.â
Jake narrowed his dark eyes. Even cornered, he maintained an air of defiance, his cool gaze radiating authority. He looked at Clayton with a hint of mockery.
âYou better make sure I die today. Because if I come back, itâll be your turn.â
Neal, who had accompanied Clayton, clenched his fists in anger, eager to prove his worth.
âHow arrogant you are! Mr. Clayton, let me teach you a lesson.â
