Chapter 907
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Clayton clutched his chest, grimacing as if each breath hurt. âKallie, it hurts so much.â
âDonât just stand there. Get him to the hospital, fast,â Kallie instructed the bodyguards, her voice firm.
Kallie had no intention of causing a scene, but Jake, observing their interaction, couldnât hold back his simmering resentment.
âEven if you want to show affection, donât do it here,â Jake remarked. âItâs been years, and I didnât expect your relationship to become so close. To anyone watching, theyâd think you two were married. Or maybe you two had been an item ages ago.â His tone dripped with sarcasm.
Kallieâs jaw tightened, unsure if Jake was genuinely jealous or simply trying to make her uncomfortable. She bit back her retort, refusing to fall into his provocation. The more she tried to explain herself, the more guilty she would seem.
Clayton, however, glared at Jake, his voice heavy with bitter defiance. âMr. Reeves, I donât know how Iâve offended you to deserve this, but if youâre so eager to harm me, fine. Aim it at me. Just donât drag Kallie down with me.â
Jake glanced at Clayton, who played the victim with ease, and let out a scornful laugh, giving a slow clap.
âTake a look, everyone. What a picture-perfect, devoted couple. But canât you see where we are? This is my company. I just want to keep certain people out of my sight. Is that really too much to ask? Do you expect me to watch you two being all affectionate on my turf and still be nice to you?â
Jakeâs anger flared, his words becoming sharper with each passing moment. He shot Kallie a cold, disdainful glance. âKallie, I donât care who you mess around with, but remember our three kids need proper guidance. Do you think youâre setting the right example for them? Iâm just afraid youâll steer them in the wrong direction.â
Kallie felt his words like a blow, but she didnât react immediately. Instead, she motioned for someone to help Clayton into the car. Then, Kallie turned back to Jake, her gaze hardening. âEven if Iâm reckless, Iâm still better at parenting than you. You vanished for years. Maybe you had your reasons, or maybe you stopped caring. But if you were truly committed to your duties as a father, you wouldnât have ceased visiting the kids altogether. At the very least, you shouldâve checked in on them when you came back. But you never bothered. You are the least qualified to say I havenât taken care of them.â
gαâηÏνððsâ¤com is your gateway to fiction Jake watched Kallie turn away, and a strange ache tugged at his heart beneath his anger. Acting on impulse, he grabbed her wrist, holding her firmly. Kallie almost stumbled at the sudden grip. When she turned back to him, Jake noticed the tears in her eyes. Since their meeting today, Kallie had shed many tears. When upset, she didnât throw tantrums; her sadness was always quiet, but deeply felt.
Though not overwhelmed, Kallieâs sorrow quietly seeped into everyoneâs mind, weighing down their hearts. Jake had thought Kallieâs distress would fill him with satisfaction, but instead, seeing her like this stirred a deep pang of heartache within him. The instant he saw Kallieâs tears, the harsh words he had prepared vanished from his lips. It was as if heâd lost the power of speech. All he could do was stare at her.
Unaware of Jakeâs inner turmoil, Kallie spoke with an icy tone. âMr. Reeves, I need to go to the hospital and check on Clayton, who you injured. Please let go of my hand.â
Jake hesitated but eventually released her. He watched as she hurried to the waiting car, giving the driver a sharp instruction to leave. As the vehicle disappeared down the street, a strange emptiness washed over Jake.
Moments later, his phone rang again, this time with Lacey calling. She was in trouble and desperately hoped Jake would come to her aid. Oddly, Jake felt annoyed by Laceyâs call, a sharp contrast to his earlier concerns. His tone was icy. âIâm busy. Handle it yourself. If you canât, call someone from my team.â
