Chapter 93
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

âMr. Reeves, donât you think youâre prying a little too much?â Linsey positioned herself in front of Kallie and addressed Jake.
Kallieâs heart raced, pounding against her chest.
âWhat are you doing?â Jakeâs glare was intense as he barked at Linsey. âGet lost!â
As he spoke, he reached for Kallieâs bag, attempting to snatch her medical documents.
The moment Jakeâs fingers brushed the papers, Linsey shouted with feigned anger, âWhy are you so eager to dig into my medical files about menstrual issues? Have you lost your mind, Jake?â
Jake froze. Linsey advanced, increasing the gap between Jake and Kallie.
This time, Jake held back, not stepping closer.
âWhat did you say?â Jake asked, his frown deepening as he fixed his eyes on Linsey.
âI said those are my medical records in Kallieâs bag. I have irregular periods, so I asked her to accompany me to the gynecologist!â Linseyâs voice was loud and clear, capturing the attention of several bystanders.
âWhy are you interested in my medical records?â Linsey challenged Jake. âMr. Reeves, is it just curiosity, or do you have a hidden crush on me? Do you need me to explain the content of my medical reports to you?â
Linseyâs bold statement left Jake unable to pursue his inquiry further.
Behind Linsey, Kallie exhaled a deep sigh of relief.
âI thought Kallie was sick.â Jakeâs face was a mask of cool detachment, his voice sharp with concern.
âCanât I invite her to accompany me if Iâm unwell?â Linsey shot back, her tone tinged with irritation.
âSheâs lost her voice. What good is her company?â Sarahâs voice carried across the room, a sneer barely concealed in her tone.
Kallieâs head dropped instinctively. Sarahâs taunts always made her want to disappear. Yet, moments later, she lifted her chin defiantly. She had to stand up for herself, for her childâs sake.
Facing Sarah directly, Kallie gestured her response.
While Sarah looked baffled, Jakeâs expression turned into a frown of comprehension as he caught on to Kallieâs message.
Linsey translated Kallieâs gestures. âKallie may be mute, but she was Jakeâs wife first.â
Linsey couldnât resist adding a jab of her own. âIf youâre so invaluable, why are you stuck in the role of a mistress while seeming so content?â
âYou!â Sarahâs face reddened with rage, her chest heaving as she fought to control her anger, glancing at Jake for support.
Jake, however, only had eyes for Kallie, his look dark and intense, ignoring Linseyâs challenge completely.
âCome on. Letâs get out of here,â Linsey muttered, tugging Kallie away quickly, fearing Jake might detect something amiss, potentially leading to his suspicion of Kallieâs pregnancy.
Fortunately for them, Jake stayed put, watching them leave.
Kallie still felt Jakeâs piercing stare even as she walked away. Only back in the car did she notice her shirt was soaked in cold sweat.
Lying to Jake and defying him were things Kallie had never envisioned herself doing. Yet now, she was doing so repeatedly. Despite the fear that gripped her physically, it didnât seem like such a big deal anymore.
Why did she have to listen to Jake at all?
âYou okay?â Linseyâs voice brought Kallie back.
Kallie merely nodded, a silent affirmation that she was fine.
âDidnât you mention wanting a divorce?â Linsey pressed, concern etching her features. âHowâs that going? Do you need help finding a lawyer? Is he still after that money from you?â
Kallie nodded, explaining she had amassed the twenty million and broached the topic of divorce again, though he was still stalling on the divorce.
âThat jerk!â Linseyâs anger flared. âWhyâs he dragging you through the mud? Heâs all sweet on Sarah, but he canât let you move on?â
A bitter smile twisted Kallieâs lips as she sighed, expressing that he had always been like that.
âTrue.â Linsey nodded, her sigh mirroring Kallieâs. âHeâs been unfaithful since the day you married. Whatâs going to change?â
âHow about this?â Struck by a sudden thought, Linsey grabbed Kallieâs arm, getting an idea.
Kallie gazed at Linsey with a perplexed expression.
âYou could really shake him up with something drastic. I came across a story once about a woman whose husband was always abusive and wouldnât grant her a divorce,â Linsey spoke with conviction.
Kallie listened intently, thinking Linsey had a brilliant idea.
âThat woman? She doused her husband with boiling water while he was asleep. It scared him so much that he immediately agreed to the divorce, fearing she might actually kill him next time!â
Kallie was at a loss for words.
Yet Linsey seemed thrilled. âIsnât that a fantastic idea? You could do something similar. Imagine standing over Jakeâs bed with a knife or a pot of boiling water! If you frighten him enough, heâll surely sign the divorce papers! He cherishes his life too much to gamble with it. Men are inherently self-centered. Heâll put his safety first!â
Kallie just shook her head.
âWhy not? Donât tell me you still have feelings for him and canât go through with it?â
Kallie knew that approach was beyond her. It just wasnât her. But there was another reason. She laid out that if she actually did so, Jake might send her to the hospital for treatment.
âFair pointâ¦â Linsey exhaled, seeing the logic. âJake isnât like the othersâ¦â
âBut!â Linsey was about to start the car when she added, âWhat if he discovers the pregnancy? Kallie, have you considered what youâll do then?â
Kallie shook her head in response. She hadnât yet devised a plan. All she could do was hope that moment would never arrive.
For now, Kallie needed Linseyâs help with something else. She gestured to Linsey, asking if she could do her a favor.
