Chapter 977
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

âMr. Reeves, please donât be so upset. Calvinâs just immature, likely spoiled by his mother. Thatâs why heâs acting out.â
To her surprise, Jake didnât offer any comfort. His voice was icier than before.
âAre you done?â
Caught off guard, Lacey blinked.
âYes.â
Jakeâs tone sharpened, his voice growing even colder.
âYou came here to complain. What do you want? Let me rephrase that. What kind of compensation are you looking for? Money? Name your price.â
Lacey furrowed her brow, her confusion deepening at his words. She glanced up at Jake, noticing that he wasnât angry. Instead, his demeanor was cool and indifferent.
Before Lacey could say a word, Jake flicked his hand dismissively.
âAnyway, Calvin did slander you. If you want anything, just let the butler know. Whether itâs precious jewelry or a luxury aircraft, take your pick.â
With a final dismissive glance, Jake turned to leave.
Lacey hurried to catch up with Jake.
âMr. Reeves, at least stay for lunch. Iâve put a lot of effort into preparing todayâs meal, and itâs health-boosting. I truly believe it would be good for you.â
Jake stopped, fixing her with a stare that froze her in place.
âFocus on Elma. Donât waste your time on me. It is pointless.â Without another word, Jake walked away, leaving Lacey standing there, puzzled and uneasy.
gαâηÏνððsâ¤Ã§Ð¾m, where stories thrive Lacey could tell Jake seemed genuinely angry with Calvin. But for some reason, she couldnât shake the feeling he was also mad at her. Was it a case of misplaced anger? It had to be. She had witnessed Calvinâs unreasonable behavior. Jake was likely embarrassed, which was why he became annoyed.
With this thought, Lacey exhaled in relief. At least she had made it through the day.
Leo hurried to catch up with Jake. Noticing the stormy expression on Jakeâs face, he attempted to calm him down.
âMr. Reeves, I agree that Calvin went too far, but his intentions were good. At his age, itâs common for kids to go through a rebellious phase. Itâs very normal.â
Jake halted in his tracks, rubbing his brows to ease the tension.
âThatâs not why Iâm angry.â
Leo was perplexed by the words he had just heard.
âThen why are you so distressed, Mr. Reeves?â he inquired gently.
Jakeâs expression revealed a trace of resignation.
âIâve come to the realization that Kallie has indeed spoiled them⦠Theyâve grown up too innocent, entirely devoid of cynicism. Their emotions are always plainly visible, like open books. If they were to enter the real world as they are, whoâs to say they wouldnât be deceived or exploited? How would they handle that?â
Leo offered a faint, understanding smile.
âBut perhaps thatâs something beautiful, isnât it? Miss Nixonâs love for them is pure, after all.â
Jake said nothing, his thoughts seemingly miles away. After what felt like an eternity, he exhaled deeply.
âCalvin reminds me so much of myself when I was younger. Heâs stubborn, often tangled in his own issues, ignoring even the simplest courtesies. I was too stern earlier. It wasnât my intention to criticize him so harshly. Letâs just leave it.â
âAs Calvin matures, heâll come to see the reasons behind your actions. The rifts between a father and his son often boil down to miscommunication. Why not open a dialogue with Calvin and share your concerns? He strikes me as a thoughtful young man. Remember how you and Elma patched things up recently after a sincere talk?â Leo suggested, hoping to soothe Jakeâs worries.
Jake was at a loss for words, hesitantly clearing his throat in a moment of discomfort.
