Chapter 138
Beyond the Divorce
I Want to Meet Him I slumped onto the couch when I got home.
I was exhausted as I gazed at the ceiling, thinking I was wrong to assume everything would go smoothly after divorcing Matthew.
Despite my efforts to move forward, I felt trapped.
I didnât know what Matthew and his âalliesâ aimed for.
Beside them, it seemed an unseen force was pushing me to move.
I doubted whether my previous decisions were correct.
It was good for the company to have projects, but I also felt tied down.
I couldnât turn back, even if it meant facing tremendous challenges.
My mom mustâve heard me and realized I hadnât returned to my room, so she quietly came downstairs.
Her heart ached when she saw me looking so tired.
She sat beside me, saying, âYou look exhausted.â I smiled bitterly and nodded.
âYeah.
Mom, why do we have to grow up?â I asked softly.
My mom stroked my hair gently.
âItâs a long journey, and you must learn to stop and smell the roses.â âTanum is my dream and the result of my hard work.
Although itâs undergoing significant changes, want to drag it down.
I wonât allow them to do that.
I canât let it fail under my leadership.
some âI didnât want to be so ruthless before this, but they went too far and left me no choice.
Some just donât deserve kindness.â My momâs hand trembled.
âIs it that scumbag again? Her words made me realize I had said too much.
I got up, saying, âMom, donât worry.
Iâve sorted things at the company.
I hired someone to help, and heâs also from our hometown.
Oh, you know him too.
Do you remember Ryan?â âThe one from the same school as you? my mom asked.
âYes, thatâs him.
He just returned to the country, and I hired him to work in my company.â âOh, thatâs great! Itâs nice to have someone from the same hometown looking out for you.
Invite him for dinner one day.
I remember him taking good care of you when you started college!â My momâs eyes sparkled.
âYeah, thatâs him,â I assured her, âIâll invite him for dinner soon.â Suddenly, my phone rang, and I removed it from my bag to check the caller ID.
I saw Atlasâs name and told my mom, âIâm okay, mom.
You can go to bed now.
Iâll go to my room, too.â I answered the call while heading upstairs.
Atlas asked, âAre you home already?â âYeah, Iâm home,â I replied as I entered my room.
âIâll be heading to Quillbrooke tomorrow for about two weeks.
If there are any issues related to ATL Empire, remember to wait for me to handle it when I return,â he said thoughtfully.
I froze and wondered what he meant.
I had never heard him speak so seriously about work matters, sol asked, âIs something wrong?â
Although I couldnât see his expression, I sensed something had happened and felt uneasy.
âYou donât need to worry about matters concerning the headquarters.
I just want you to be prepared if anything happens during my absence.
As I said, you must replace Tanum Corporationâs previous suppliers within one month, no matter what.â
âGot it,â I promised solemnly.
Still, I couldnât help but ask, âDid I cause any trouble for you?â My heart was in my throat, and I had a slight headache.
It seemed I had caused trouble for Atlas again.
