Chapter 154
Beyond the Divorce
Without Saying Goodbye I was flustered when I saw his name, I wasnât going to pick it up, but my finger slipped and I hit the answer button.
âWhat took you so long?â
I rolled my eyes at his commanding tone.
Getting no answer, he asked, âWhatâs the matter?â
âNothingâ¦â
âYou donât sound happy hearing my voice,â he said.
âShould I be happy?â I asked. Happy that he finally thought of me? Come on.
He said, dissatisfied. âI havenât heard from you. Donât tell me you didnât know I was back âHey, did you check your phone? Donât assume itâs my fault, alright? Also, why should I keep calling you?
People gossip about divorced women all the time. You should stay away from me, shouldnât you?â
I caught myself sounding upset because he hadnât called me. Just as I wanted to explain, he hung up.
What the hell was wrong with this man? Why did he have to hang up on me all the time?
I nearly threw my phone away. How could he not even say goodbye?
Two days later, Ryan returned to the office. I almost couldnât recognize him. He had grown a scruffy beard and looked sunburnt.
âRyan, you look awful!â I felt sorry for him, as I could easily imagine the hardships he had gone through.
Hearing my concerned voice, he froze a bit but soon recovered.
Then he pulled over a suitcase. âGive me half an hour to freshen up. Meanwhile, take a look at what Iâve got for you.
He then turned and left my office. I tried to pull the heavy travel case but failed. When I opened it, the case was filled with supplier information, samples, certificates, and such.
Everything was neatly organized. I quickly got Benjaminâs help to separate suppliers that had already signed contracts with us.
Half an hour later, Ryan returned to my office, looking much more refreshed. He then talked in detail about the suppliers he had met.
F15 BONUS I secretly called my mom to tell her to prepare dinner. When Ryan was away, my mom asked me several times to invite him over, and I promised her I would.
My mom was thrilled when I told her about it and asked me to fetch Ava.
After the meeting. Benjamin said, âWhy donât we all grab a nice meal today? This is worth celebrating.â
âWe should, but not today. Help me book somewhere nice for dinner tomorrow, okay? To celebrate that weâve reached a new milestone!â I said, âEvery staff member is invited.â
Everyone then left the conference room in excitement.
I asked Ryan, âWould you like to have dinner at my place tonight? My parents are in Foswood, and theyâve been eager to see you again.â
He smiled widely. âTheyâre in Foswood, too? Thatâs perfect. I missed your momâs cooking!â
