Chapter 210
Beyond the Divorce
Who Is the Mastermind?
Suddenly, blood splattered on my face, and I lost consciousness. When I finally awoke, I smelled disinfectant and saw Ivannaâs anxious eyes. âChlo, youâre awake!â
I I felt pain all over, especially on my face. Still, I was relieved when I realized I wasnât dead. The man with the knife got shot, and I shuddered when I recalled his knife coming down on me. If he got shot a second later, I would have died already.
âThank goodness youâre awake!â Ivanna exclaimed. Immediately after, she ran out of the room with teary eyes. âChloâs awake!â
Atlas came in, and I choked back my sobs. He hugged me, saying. âEverythingâs okay now.â
I took some time to calm down before asking. âWho did this?â
Atlas shook his head. âThe leader got away, and weâre still interrogating the lackeys. I want to know who hired them.â
âWho realized I went missing?â I wanted to know.
Ivanna said, âIt was someone from the kindergarten. No one went to pick up Ava, and the school couldnât reach you, so Ava gave them my number. I rushed to get her, but something felt off, so I called Mr. Atlas.
âHe tracked your car to Strathmore Road. Your phone and bag were there, but someone had smashed.
your car window.â
While Ivanna spoke, Atlas observed my reactions.
I closed my eyes for a moment and then opened them. âWhereâs Ava?â
âDonât worry. My assistant is looking after her.â Ivanna answered thoughtfully.
ââ¦want to go home,â I said to Atlas. âI want to go home!â
After gazing at me, he told Dylan to ask the doctor about my discharge. The doctor said I was okay to leave since I only had a few cuts on my face. He advised me not to get them wet and prescribed some ointment.
It was nearly 3 a.m. when I got home. I went straight to Avaâs room, where Ivannaâs assistant slept beside her. Ava clung to the assistantâs clothes, unaware of my presence. I quietly backed out of the room with tears in my eyes.
Atlas sat beside me when I returned to my bedroom. He asked, âAre you okay?â
Heared into him and felt drained. I didnât know who would want to kill me. My mind was in a mess uncertainty and fear. A while later, I whispered, âI want to take a bath.â
Ill help you,â he offered, but I shook my head. âNo, I can do it myself.â
He continued to watch me but eventually relented. âOkay, just be careful not to wet your face.â
After my bath, he lay beside me and asked, âDo you want to sleep?â
âWhat do you want to ask me?â I knew he had questions but feared how I would react.
âDid youâ¦see Celine Pierce today?â he asked.
âYour aunt?â I looked at him.
âYeah.â He stared into my eyes.
I nodded. âYeah, I did. Thatâs why I was on that road. Still, your aunt wouldnât have gone through such trouble to harm me.â
Atlas pulled me into his arms. âGet some rest. Weâll find out who did this.â
I snuggled against him, still thinking of what had happened. I didnât know who wanted me dead and wondered if it was Matthew. However, my thoughts slipped away, and I fell asleep from exhaustion.
