Chapter 247
Beyond the Divorce
Acting Together Melanie rushed toward me while Matthew followed with a displeased expression. âWhat are you doing?
Be carefull âChloel What were you laughing at?â She pointed at me.
I acted shocked and looked at her thoughtfully. âAre you asking me? We were just chatting about how there are so many dogs nowadays. If you donât leash them, they bite people. Rabies vaccinations are in high demand. Havenât you heard?â
The woman beside us suppressed her laughter and nodded. âExactly! Mad dogs are running wild these days. Itâs hard to guard against them.
Melanie grimaced angrily.
Suddenly, the doctorâs assistant called, âChloe Hartz, you can come in now!â
I stood up with my paperwork and approached the nurse. I handed her my documents before entering the examination room.
I smiled when I entered, which delighted the doctor performing the ultrasound. âOh my, a beautiful lady like you with such a sunny disposition. Iâve been seeing frowns all day, and youâre the only one who comes in with such radiance.â
Still smiling, I lay on the examination bed and replied, âHappiness is the source of good luck.
My words put the doctor, her assistant, and the nurse in high spirits. They conducted the examination carefully. âDonât worry, the gallstones are just two small pieces inside the gallbladder. The gallbladder walls look normal. You just need to watch your diet.â
I was pleased to hear that. It turned out that the gallstones had moved from the bile duct back into the gallbladder. The doctor had mentioned that if they were in the bile duct, it could cause more pain, while the gallbladder pain would be milder.
It seemed like the heavens were looking out for me..
âYou see, isnât happiness the source of good luck?â I smilingly remarked before thanking them and leaving the examination room.
Outside, only Matthew remained in the corridor. He hurried over, asking. âHowâd it go? Did you come for a Istone checkup? What did the doctor say?â
ed expression made me recall when he accompanied me for checkups âCâChlo, I considered visiting Ava during the holidays, butâ¦â Matthew stammered.
âThatâs not necessary. Just take good care of your child,â I said indifferently, leaving it at that. A grown man didnât need to explain why he wanted to see his daughter.
As we conversed, the woman I spoke with earlier had not yet gone inside. She looked at us with some Surprise. I waved at her. âIâm going now!â
She also bid me farewell.
âEleanor Wallist!â Just then, the nurse called her name. I couldnât help but remember it as it was a pretty name.
âChlo⦠How about we bring Ava out for dinner tonight? I miss her! Matthew seemed anxious, wanting to reach out to me, but stopped himself. âChloâ¦â
âMatthew!â Just then, a shout interrupted Matthewâs attempt to continue. He withdrew his hand and turned around, scolding, âWhy are you yelling?â
âChloe, do you have no shame? Why are you everywhere? You canât even give up on this chance to seduce him? Youâre shameless!â Melanieâs tone was nasty.
I turned to look at Melanie. âHave you developed a delusional disorder or something? Did you see me seducing him?â
Then I scolded Matthew, âCan you educate your wife? I know you as someone who values dignity. How did you become so shameless with her? Youâve lived under the same roof as siblings for many years and are now married. Why arenât you on the same page?â
I took the opportunity to expose their affair.
âAsk everyone if Iâve bothered you two. Canât you pretend we donât know each other and mind your business? Be careful with your unborn child. Donât give birth to another freak like yourself.â
The people waiting for their checkups agreed with me. âYeah! She didnât bother you two. Why is that woman so arrogant, even with such a big belly? She has no manners at all!â
Matthewâs face reddened as he pulled Melanie away hastily.
I gave those people a thumbsâup and left with a bright smile. I didnât know why, but I felt terrific today.
