Chapter 289
Beyond the Divorce
Both Sides of the Spectrum âDoes that mean youâre tricking her?â I was shocked as I looked at Atlas.
He looked at me and pinched my nose, saying âYouâre clever.â
âArenât you afraid you can no longer do anything about the situation if she works with Atticus?â I probed.
He shook his head. âDo you think Atticus will work with just anyone?â
I knew Atlas was right. Atticus was a sly fox, no matter who he dealt with. Atlas patted my face and said,â If you canât reach my phone, email me. I can check that anytime. Iâm making things look like my personal affairs so Celine canât control me.â
I knew Iâd miss Atlas as soon as he left. I couldnât imagine how I would manage without him beside me.
âRemember, secure maximum benefit if there are developments on Atticusâs side. Donât be so loyal to him because he wonât do the same for you. Ultimately, itâs all about interests.â
I felt somewhat anxious after hearing his words. I didnât know how long he would be away. However, based on his instructions, I suspected he would be gone for a long while.
âWhat will you do if Celine does work with Atticus?â I looked at him. I wanted an answer because I knew Celine and Atticus wouldnât refuse regarding interests.
Atlas didnât answer me directly. Instead, he idly played with my hair. I asked again, âIs there something you want me to do?â
He smiled at me charmingly and leaned down to kiss me. âYes, take good care of yourself and stay pretty while awaiting my return. Also, âfeedâ me.â
âWhy are you so shameless? Iâm serious, Atlas-â Before I could finish, he silenced me with a passionate kiss. He was unpredictable yet seemed to always be there for me. His thoughts were always a mystery to 1. me.
I couldnât understand him, but he could read me like a book. That was what frustrated me most. I had more to say to him but was so tired I couldnât muster the energy. I fell asleep as soon as I turned over.
I was still in Atlasâs arms when I woke up. He drowsily looked at me and leaned in to kiss me. Then, he mumbled, âIâm so lucky I found you.â
I was puzzled, asking. âWhat do you mean by that?â
He didnât respond. Instead, he held me tightly. We lay in bed until nine in the morning, then got up and had Unexpectedly, I ran into Stella at the entrance. We were shocked to see each other but still exchanged smiles. Stella asked, âAre you just leaving?â
âYeah, I overslept.â I answered truthfully. After all, she hadnât seen me leave Atlasâs room.
âChloe, youâre becoming increasingly unrestrained,â Stella taunted me.
Iâve always been like this. You just donât know me that well since we havenât known each other for long,â I spoke without revealing my emotions, then asked, âAre you heading upstairs? I wonât keep you.â
âOkay! Yeah, Iâm going to see Atlas since heâs leaving for a business trip today,â Stella said.
I smiled when I realized she was unsure if I was with Atlas. I nodded politely and said, âAll right, then.
Iâm in a hurry, too.â
I didnât wait for her response and walked away. I knew the concierge wouldnât reveal anything irrelevant to people, either.
I contemplated Atlasâs words about Celine working with Atticus when I reached my office. I called Carol and asked her to bring me our recent contracts with Atticus. After carefully examining several of them, I remembered a few things that made me uneasy.
Immediately after, I called Adrian to ask if he was at the law firm. Soon after, I went there to meet him. I knew I had to be cautious if Atticus was colluding with Celine.
