Chapter 336
Beyond the Divorce
Go Big or Go Home I knew Matthew didnât expect me to appear so calm while telling him to get lost. It mustâve been a great Insult to him since he looked so embarrassed.
âChloe, I came to talk things out with you. You can make amends or face the consequences of defying me. You can choose if this is a friendly discussion or a warning.
Suddenly, someone opened my office door. Ryan entered, asking. âWhoâs speaking with such authority? Tell me, where are you planning to move to?â
Matthewâs lips twitched when he saw Ryan. The former regained his arrogant composure and retaliated, I didnât expect to see my senior from college here.â
Matthew knew Ryan well, especially when Matthew pursued me in school. Ryan had taken good care of me then. Therefore, Matthew had been wary of him until I accepted Matthew as my boyfriend.
Ryan glanced at Matthew and said, âYou just mentioned moving, right? Where to?â
Ryan confidently sat at the main seat and looked Matthew in the eyes, saying. âThe difference between a man and a boy is something you might not understand. Do you want to move back here? Sorry, but youâll need my opinion.â
âYou? Pfft!â Matthew leaned back, looking defiant. âYouâll always be my defeated underling.â
âIs that so? Try me again.â Ryan remained composed. âWe can make phase two of Avalon Hills our bet.
This place doesnât suit your status and isnât substantial enough. You want to make it big, right?â
I sat upright, not entirely understanding Ryan. I didnât know what phase two of Avalon Hills was. As far as I knew, the first phase had just ended. There was no mention of a second phase. The first phase was a significant project the government had prioritized.
Matthew also sat upright. âWhat do you mean?â
âIt is what it is,â Ryan was vague, but Matthew seemed to understand because he appeared slightly nervous.
Ryan, donât think studying overseas makes you great. Arenât you back here just for a woman? Youâre even willing to be her slave, arenât you?â Matthew retorted, feeling angry and embarrassed.
Thatâs because sheâs worth it, Matthew. If you want to be a real man, run your business and stop bothering Chloe. Otherwise, Iâll make your life miserable,â Ryan was severe. I had never seen him so confident Matthew clicked his tongue. âRyan, can you even bet against me on phase two?â
Ryan asserted, âI bet youâll lose out. However, if you win, Iâll convince Chloe to give in and throw in a complete renovation for you.â
While I didnât grasp the situation fully, Ryanâs confidence was undeniable. People often said men were the mest attractive when working, but Iâd argue they were most attractive during negotiations.
âYou shouldnât waste any more time here, Matthew. You can lose everything without realizing it,â Ryan implied Matthewâs recent success had made him blindly arrogant.
Matthew glanced at me, then stood up and grabbed his bag. âYouâre something else, Chloe. Youâre teaming up with outsiders to scheme against me.â
Immediately after, he turned and left. I watched him in a daze, wondering if I was hallucinating. I ran toward Ryan and sat on the couch, asking, âWhatâs all this about phase two?â
He glanced at me. âWe agreed that Iâd handle external matters while you handled internal ones.
I cackled, âDo you honestly have to be like this? Come on, spill the beans!â
He sat upright and said, âPhase two of Avalon Hills has already received approval. Matthew has been trying to get it.â
âWait, for what?â I was doubtful because I knew Matthew too well.
âItâs probably thanks to Lioraâs efforts,â Ryan explained. That woman still has some influence.â
âWhy are you betting with him then?â I started to feel confused about Ryanâs intentions.
