Chapter 37
A Divorce After My Rebirth
Chapter 37 She Canât Afford It
Her hatred stung his heart, but he remained resolute.
âIâm not asking you to remain blind forever. Itâs temporary. Isabella needs the surgery now, and I will find
suitable eyes for you as soon as possibleâ¦â
Before he could finish his sentence, Natalie slapped him hard across the face.
Temporary?
What was that supposed to mean?
She glared at Cedric one last time and turned to open the hospital room door. Then, she said coldly,
âShe canât afford my eyes, and neither can you.â
With that, she left, ignoring the man who radiated an icy aura behind her.
Cedric had finally said it.
Natalie had given up on having any illusions about him, but it still hurt when it came to this moment.
Ten years. They had ten years togetherâ¦!
What drove him to make such a decision for another woman?!
What was the reason behind it all? 1
Natalie asked herself these questions repeatedly but couldnât find the answers.
If Cedric didnât tell her, she⦠would never know.
Natalie had no recollection of how she left the hospital. In the car, she called Bianca. Blanca must have
been very busy since she only answered at the very last second.
She didnât sound like she was in a good mood.
âNat.
Bia, are you okay?
hinking of what Cedric had said, Natalieâs heart clenched. She had always known that when it came to
Cedric, he would react like this if pushed too far.
Bianca responded, âTm on my way home. Are you at home?â
âL be back soon!â
âAlright, Iâve bought groceries. Iâll cook something delicious for you.â
Biancaâs words comforted Natalie somewhat, but she knew how Cedric was. With how he was treating
her now, there was no way he would spare her friends and family.
After ending the call with Bianca, Natalie looked out of the car window. She was unable to hide the
hatred
burning in her eyes, and her face was pale.
In the end, she called her uncle.
Stephen quickly answered, âNat!â
âUncle, I need a lawyer.â
âIs there no one in Verde City who can handle this case for you?â
âThere is, but Cedricâ¦â
She didnât finish her sentence, but Stephen was a seasoned man and naturally understood the
implications.
âAlright, Iâll have Mr Yancey fly over there today.â
âOkay,â Natalie replied.
Now that Bianca wasnât able to help her manage her divorce, Natalie knew that no one else in this city
would dare take her case.
After all, no one in Verde City was willing to offend the Johnson family.
When she arrived at the apartment, Natalie heard the sound of running water coming from the kitchen.
She was surprised by how quickly Bianca had reached home. She changed her shoes and walked over
to find Blanca standing by the sink. The basin was already full, and she stood there motionless.
Natalie approached and turned off the tap.
sacing her, Blanca smiled and said, âOh, youâre back? Why donât you get changed? Weâll have dinner
Though she said that, nothing had been cooked yet. Natalie looked at Biancaâs clothes and noticed the
cardboard box on the dining table that Bianca had brought home.
There was a flash of guilt in her eyes as she said, âIâm sorry. Iâve caused you so much trouble.â
âYou already know?â Bianca asked.
Natalie nodded. âYes.â
âDid he threaten you?â
Natalie hesitated.
It wasnât just a threat. Their relationship had escalated to an irreconcilable point.
It was more than just a threat. He evenâ¦! 1
However, at this moment, Natalie didnât know what to say. She despised Cedric and wished for his
death.
Who could have imagined that two people who were once deeply in love would reach a point where
they
wished for each otherâs demise?
Natalie lowered her head and said, âBia, donât worry about my issues for now.â
Bianca responded nonchalantly, âSilly girl. If I donât take care of you now, who will? Who else will look
out
for you?â
Seeing how depressed Natalie looked, Bianca added, âDonât worry! I already got an offer from another
law. firm! Iâll get a new job soon, and Iâll still be able to help you! I wonât abandon you, ever!â
To Bianca, Natalie was now a person without any family. If she didnât help her, Cedric would probably
torment her to no end.
Tears dripped onto the back of Biancaâs hand. She looked up to find Natalie crying!
âOh dear! Are you feeling touched? If so, buck up and stand up for yourself! Let those people see that
youâre not someone who depends on a man but a man who begged her to depend on him.â
Natalie couldnât help but laugh through her tears. Biancaâs words were so similar to Stephenâs that she
couldnât stop smiling
is that amusing? Look, youâre so beautiful when you smile. Is it worth crying over a man?â
itâs not Natalie replied.
Fighting to this extent after spending ten years with Cedric..
Crying was simply not worth it.
Bianca led Natalie outside, and they sat down. At this point, she didnât feel like cooking at all. Bianca
ordered a variety of takeout dishes. It was then that Bianca noticed the bandage on Natalieâs arm and
asked, âWhat happened to you?â
Natalie simply said, âItâs nothing.â
âTell me,â Bianca insisted firmly.
Natalie looked at her and adjusted the pig in her arms. âItâs nothing. Itâs all Cedricâs fault. He was the
one
who messed with your job.
âOh, stop thinking about it.â
Natalie was surprised. âYou knew it was him?â
Bianca nodded. âYes. Itâs pretty obvious that heâs targeting me because of you.â
Natalie remained silent.
Of course it was obvious!
Bianca had worked at that law firm for many years and had never lost a divorce case. Her experience
and
reputation meant that she was almost untouchable. That was why todayâs events immediately made
Blanca think of Cedric, as he was probably the only one in Verde City who was capable of doing such a
thing.
Iâm serious, Bia. You shouldnât worry about my problems for now.â
âYou say that, but are you sure you can find someone to handle your case?â
âDonât worry. Iâve found a lawyer overseas, and theyâll be flying to Verde City soon.â
Blanca looked bewildered. She had never asked Natalie about her time overseas, even though she
heard about it from the international media coverage.
Now she leaned in close to Natalie and asked, âWere you really involved with a man while you were
abroad?â
Natalie was drinking water. At Biancaâs question, she spat It out. She coughed for a good while before
finally calming down.
Wow, Nat I really underestimated you, huh? Donât tell me you really did have an affair like the news
If Natalie really did have an affair, it would be bad for her reputation. But it was an immensely satisfying
thought since it was Cedric they were dealing with.
Natalie glared at Bianca and replied, âOf course not!â
âThen tell me, who found the lawyer thatâs flying in from overseas?â
Bianca looked at Natalie as if she was sure something was going on.
Natalie sighed. She hadnât planned on telling Bianca about her uncleâs involvement. However, with
Biancaâs persistence, she couldnât keep it a secret any longer.
Finally, she took a deep breathâ¦.
