Chapter 13
When She Stops Playing Nice
Chapter 13
âNo, of course not!â Neil denied quickly. He even wondered if he had upset Gina.
Since Neil wasnât intending to switch doctors, Gina was unaffected. If Neil didnât want her help, he could say so.
âYou can tell me if thereâs something else. No need to look for Dr. Genevieve, Gina hinted. It was the best she could do. After all, she didnât know Neil well. However, Neil was generous. He paid her 10 million dollars for her treatment last time and two million dollars for the medicine this time. In return, Gina was generous too.
âSure.â Neil nodded. âHungry, lass? Letâs go out to eat.â
âOkay,â Gina replied.
When Gina left the study. Ethan was shocked to see her. âShe couldnât be here because of the engagement, right?â he thought.
Ethanâs heart skipped a beat. When Neil came out, Ethan asked hurriedly, âGrandpa, why is Gina here? Is she forcing me to marry her?â
Neil rolled his eyes. âDo you think youâre that good?â Neil could tell Gina wasnât interested in Ethan.
Ethan was confused. Having seen Gina last night and again now, Ethanâs mood plummeted. When he saw Gina sitting next to Neil, he was stunned
Neil was slightly embarrassed. âIs it too noisy, Gina? Shall I arrange a private room for us? We can eat there.â
âNo need Gina didnât think it was necessary.
âOkay. Letâs eatâ Neil gestured to the food. âSee anything you like? If not, tell me. Iâll get them to make it for you.â
âIâm not picky,â Gina replied calmly.
âLetâs eat then,â Neil said.
Gina respectfully waited for Neil to start eating before her. Neil noticed how meticulous she was. The more he with Gina, the more he liked her.
Just then, Gabriel called. Neilâs expression turned.cold, He answered but waited for Gabriel to speak first.

âDad, I had someone deliver your present, so I wonât be back, Gabriel said. If he returned, his father would nag at him about. marrying again. The two of them always argued when that happened. Gabriel didnât want to ruin his fatherâs birthday party and thus, remained at the company working
âWhy bother if youâre not here?â Neil was upset. He had Gabriel quite late in his life. Gabriel was now in his twenties and was the only one unmarried. His grandchildren were the same age as Gabriel. Neil was anxious to marry him off.
Gabriel was ruthless in business but cared about Neil. He didnât want to argue when Neil was ill. He said, âDad, you know my condition. Anyone would be worse off with me.
Gabriel suffered from a rare congenital illness and numerous internationally renowned doctors declared treatment hopeless. His muscles would atrophy and he would die before thirty.
Gabriel was now twentyâsix. His body had begun deteriorating. His right pinky finger had stiffened.

However, Gabriel wasnât giving up. He used his health as an excuse to postpone marriage. Moreover, he had someone he wanted to protect.
Gabrielâs cold eyes softened at the thought of Gina. He had been undergoing secret treatments for his illness. Other than Neil, none knew. It was essential to keep it a secret as some might take action if they find outâ¦
Gabriel had also been tirelessly searching for Genevieve. Unfortunately, she remained elusive. Even the highâreward. missing person task he posted on the hacker web was still up.
âNonsense. Donât make me yell at you. Itâs not hopeless. Hurry back. I want to introduce you to someone.â Neil refrained from being too direct, especially with Gina nearby.
However, Gina focused on eating.
Gabriel frowned. Neil was matchmaking again. There would be plenty of single women from prestigious families at the party, which was why Gabriel didnât want to attend. He didnât have time to deal with them.
âNot interested, Gabriel refused outright.
Neil chided, âYou just want to annoy me.â
A servant brought over a bottle of wine then. Neil signaled for the servant to pour him a glass. Gina spoke, âMr. Jackson, did you forget what I said? You shouldnât drink.â
Gabriel, who was about to hang up, froze. His pupils contracted. Was Gina at his house?

Neil couldnât be bothered with Gabriel then. He looked aggrieved. âDidnât you say Iâm recovering well? Iâd only have a sip.â Neil gestured with his fingers.
Gina said firmly, âNot even a drop.â
Neil was disappointed. He waved his hand, signaling the servant to take the wine away. The servant was surprised. He had worked there for many years and Neil liked his alcohol. However, Neil listened to Gina this time. It was impressive.
Gina added, âAnd donât be angry. Itâs not good for you, Mr. Jackson.â
Neilâs anger dissipated with Ginaâs concern. Happy, Neil returned to his call, only to hear Gabriel say, âIâm coming back.â
