Chapter 18
When She Stops Playing Nice
Chapter 18
âSince theyâre not nice to you, letâs forget about them,â Ruby said furiously.
Gina smiled. She held Rubyâs hand.
Ruby continued, âIf you donât mind, we can be a family.â She touched Ginaâs smooth cheek affectionately. âI always wanted to have a daughterâ¦
Ruby was also pitiful. Her closest relatives had passed away. Gina never heard her talk about her son and husband and wouldnât bring up such a sad topic.
Then you can be my mum from now on,â Gina spoke seriously.
Ruby was surprised and delighted. âReally?â
âMum,â Gina called out.
Ruby covered her mouth joyfully. âAye. She paused then continued. âBy the way, Iâve something to discuss with you. This hospital must cost a fortune. Can you transfer me to somewhere cheaper? Iâm better now, so staying here is unnecessary.â
This hospital had specialized medical attendants constantly available, offering various services like massage and walks. It was too costly for a student like Gina.
Gina shook her head. âDonât worry about that.â
Ruby hesitated, trying to find the right words.
Gina spoke, âMum, just speak your mind.â
âGina, be honest. Where did you get the money for my medical bills?â Ruby was worried that Gina might go down the wrong path. It wouldnât be worth it.
Cina calmly replied, âI worked partâtime. I drew some designs for a jewelry company, and they sold well.â
Ruby had seen her drafts. Although she didnât understand it, she thought it was excellent. âDonât work too hard. And donât spend it all on me. Save it for yourself.â
Gina smiled and didnât speak.
After visiting Ruby, Gina went to the sixth floor to another VVIP ward and looked at the man on the bed through the window. He was her biological father, Phillip Miller.
Gina hadnât planned on staying, but she sensed something wrong. Phillipâs face was gray.
Gina walked in and examined Phillip. He was suffocating.
Gina eyed the oxygen mask and yanked it off. There was a problem with the oxygen. Or, someone had tampered with it to kill Phillip.
Soon, Phillip started breathing, and his complexion improved. However, he remained in a coma.

Chapter 18
Suddenly, a cry came from the doorway. âMiss Miller, what are you doing?â
76%
Lucas pointed at Gina with wide eyes. âWhy did you remove Mr. Millerâs oxygen mask? Are you trying to kill him? This is outrageous!â
âIf I donât do it, heâll die,â âGina said coldly. âGet someone to replace the oxygen tank.â
Lucas was displeased. âWho do you think you are? Youâre a nobody now. You donât get to boss me around.â
Gina sneered. Lucas had never respected her. He always sided with Olivia to frame and harm her.
Ella appeared at the doorway. When she saw Gina, her face changed, and she scolded, âWhy are you here? Have you come to beg us to take you back?â Ella seemed to forget Gina was the one who severed their relationship.
Lucas complained, âMadam, Miss Miller pulled off Mr. Millerâs oxygen mask.â
âYou bitch. Ellaâs eyes went wide. She ran to look at Phillip anxiously, ordering Lucas, âHurry! Get the doctor now.â
âYes, madam.â Lucas left.
When Gina was leaving. Ella shouted, âStop. Are you trying to run off after trying to kill your father? Is it because you get a share of the assets? Iâm going to call the police and throw you in jail. She blocked Ellaâs way.
Dylan Thomas arrived. He glanced at Gina and greeted, âMiss Miller.
Gina acknowledged him.

Dylan grew sullen when he addressed Ella, âWhat happened?â
wonât
Ella grinted her teeth. âItâs outrageous, Dr. Thomas. This brat isnât our daughter anymore. And she just pulled out her fatherâs oxygen mask. Since her father had a stroke, he needed a ventilator. Sheâs trying to kill him. What a bitch.â
Dylan frowned. There must be a reason she did that. Shouldnât you find out what happened first?â
Ella didnât understand why Dylan, a doctor who returned from overseas, would speak up for Gina. Ella glared at Gina. âAre you saying sheâs being helpful?â
Dylan snorted. âMiss Miller is the one who visits Mr. Miller the most, andâ¦â
Gina interrupted, âStop.â
Dylan could only shut up. The Miller family didnât appreciate what Gina had done for them. Gina had wasted her efforts.
Cina didnât want to argue. âThe oxygen tank isnât pure.â They would have to verify what was mixed in.
Dylan had someone replace the oxygen tank, checked it, and put the oxygen mask back on Phillip.
The original oxygen tank was found to contain methane, a toxic gas that could cause suffocation: Dylan said coldly. âIf not for Miss Miller, Mr. Miller would have died.â
Ellaâs heart skipped a beat. She felt guilty momentarily.
Cina mocked, âStill want to call the police, Mrs. Miller?â
