Chapter 27
When She Stops Playing Nice
Chapter 27
âMiss, you canât go in. You canât approach this room without a reservation, the security guard said.
Olivia tried to see who Neil was dining with but couldnât see anything. Olivia glared at the security guard and left.
Neil took his seat. âGina. Iâd like to discuss somethingâ
Gina put down her utensils and listened.
Neil cleared his throat. âGina, what do you think of Gabriel?â
Gina didnât understand. She replied. âHeâs quite good.â
Neilâs eyes lit up. âGood. Do you want to try dating him?â
Gabriel was surprised. He knew his father wanted to play the matchmaker, but didnât expect him to be so direct. However, it suited him fine.
Gina was dumbfounded. âWhat?â
Gabriel seized the opportunity. âWill you let me court you?â He looked sincere.
âGina, although Gabriel isnât young anymore, heâs never been in a relationship. Iâve never seen him so serious about someone. So⦠can you give him a chance?â Neil seemed on the verge of tears.
Gina was still in shock and at a loss. She didnât feel anything for Gabriel.
Neil felt disappointed. It seemed Gina didnât fancy Gabriel. Gabriel wasnât impressive enough.
Suddenly, Gabriel lowered his gaze. âDid you decide not to be responsible for me?â
Ginaâs cars burned. Why did Gabriel bring this up? Neil was still there. âCan youâ¦â She didnât finish her sentence.
Gabriel repeated, âWill you let me pursue you?â
âYes,â Gina agreed exasperatedly, as long as Gabriel didnât bring that up.
She looked awkwardly at Neil. Neil was pretending he hadnât heard.
Gabriel smiled.
Just then, Isaac brought something over.
Neil took a red velvet box from Isaac and opened it to reveal a diamond bracelet.
When Gabriel saw it, he understood Neil considered C i na his future daughter-in-law. The bracelet was passed down from Gabrielâs mother to her daughter-in-law.
âCome, Gina. This is for you. Take it.â Neil gave the box to Gabriel, signaling him to help Gina wear it. It was time for Gabriel to make a move.
Chapter 27
Gabriel held Ginaâs wrist. âLet me put it on for you.â
Everything happened so quickly. Gina looked at the diamond bracelet on her wrist. Removing it now would seem disrespectful. She said, âThanks, Grandpa Neil.â
âNo need for niceties, Gina.â Neil chuckled.
When Olivia returned to the private room. Clinton and A b b i e had already left with Ethan.
Ella looked unpleasant. She muttered irritatedly, âHow arrogant. Our family will eventually prosper too.â
Ella noticed Olivia didnât look good. She consoled, âHoney, donât take his motherâs words to heart. Youâre the best!â
Olivia shook her head, pretending to be good. âMom, I didnât. Itâs just⦠I ran into Mr. Neil.â
Ella and Noah were surprised.
Noah asked, âMr. Neil is here?â
Olivia told them. âHeâs in the first Phoenix room with his guest. But most importantly, Gina seems close to Mr. Neil.â
Ella couldnât believe it. âThatâs impossible.â
Olivia added, âGina bought an pearl ring from Quariaâs collectorâs series for him as a birthday present.â
Ella was stunned. âWhere did she get the money?â
Noah reminded, âMom, did you forget? She forced us to sign the severance agreement and took 600 million dollars.â He gritted his teeth.
Ella remembered. So Gina spent the money to please Neil? Did Gina want to retaliate against their family after that: their bad luck to have a daughter like her. Ellaâs chest hurt from fury.
Olivia quickly comforted Ella. âMom, relax. Maybe Gina canât give up on Ethan. But I love Ethanâ¦
âSheâs not worthy,â Ella spat out fiercely. âDarling, donât worry. The engagement will proceed no matter what. Iâll tell Mr. Neil that you bought the fake because Gina lied. Heâll see her true colors.â Ella was no longer concerned with keeping family matters private.
Olivia was startled. She might have overplayed her act. If Neil investigated, wouldnât he discover that she had lied?
Olivia hurriedly stopped Ella. âMom, let bygones be bygones. Besides, Mr. Neil is in the first Phoenix room. No one without a reservation can even get close⦠Furthermore, Gina wonât admit to it. If this matter escalates, Iâm afraid Ethanâs parents wonât be happyâ¦
Olivia had a point. Gina had never admitted to her mistakes. If they dragged it out, it might upset Ethanâs parents, especially with the wedding date approaching.
Ella sighed. She rubbed Oliviaâs head. âSorry, honey.â
âMom, Iâm fine.â Olivia pretended to be docile and understanding.
Noahâs phone rang. It was a call from Elsen. Surprised, Noah quickly answered, âMr. Frost.â
