Chapter 39
When She Stops Playing Nice
Chapter 39
Peter raised his head, only to be met with the dark soles of the shoes.
Before he could even see who it was, he was knocked askew by a foot.
Just as Peter was about to curse, he struggled to look up and recognized who it was.
It was Gabriel, the head of the Jackson Group.
Peter looked at Gabrielâs sullen expression, feeling a bit weak in the knees. He meekly allowed Gabriel to step on him and forced a smile, asking. âMr. Jackson, is there something I can help you with?â
Gabriel, with a cold face, said. âWhy are you lying on the ground? You almost tripped me.â
Peterâs smile stiffened on his face as he said, âSorry for blocking your way, Mr. Jackson, Iâll get up right away.â
âCan you still get up? Do you need someone to help you?â Gabriel asked.
âYes,â Peter answered in a trembling voice.
Gabriel moved his foot away, leaving a clear shoeprint on Peterâs face, which looked ridiculous.
Peter got up trembling.
When Gabriel looked at Gina, his expression softened, and there was even a smile in his deep and cold eyes.
âGina, what a coincidence.â
Gina didnât know why he was here, but she still cooperated and said, âTruly a coincidence.â
If she hadnât told Gabriel on the phone yesterday that she was coming to Vaprebara Church, he wouldnât be here.
âWhat happened!â Gabriel asked.
His gaze turned cold as it fell on Peter, indicating that he wanted Peter to explain.
Peterâs heart pounded. He hadnât expected Gina to know Gabriel, the all-powerful figure in Wrinster.
Just a moment ago, he had been disrespectful to Gina, even considering laying hands on her.
Peter was done for.
Peterâs lips trembled slightly as he said, âThe lady asked me to admit my mistakes to those I deceived. Iâll go now and tell them that Iâm just a fraudster who cheats people, and Iâll give them their money back.â
Gina raised an eyebrow faintly and said, âI didnât expect you to be so cooperative, Mr. Lennon. So, will you handle exposing your own affairs, or should I take care of it?â
She handed all the evidence from the canvas bag to Peter.
Peterâs smile was more like a cry. He felt that both Gina and Gabriel spoke with such sinister undertones.
He took the evidence from Ginaâs hand and said, âOkay, Miss Miller, rest assured. Iâll take care of what you instructed.â

Chapter 39
Gina crossed her hands in front of her and said, âGood, then go and do it quickly. Iâm running out of patience and want to see results as soon as possible.
âYes.â Peter didnât even bother to wipe the shoe print off his face and hurried towards Blessing Tower.
Gina remained indifferent as ever. She asked Gabriel, âWhy didnât you ask me first? Why intervene against him? Maybe Iâm bullying him?â
âYou wouldnât. You must have your reasons for targeting someone, and I know you, Gina. Youâre kind-hearted and wouldnât target someone without a reason.â Gabriel chose to unconditionally stand by her side.
Gina only saw Olivia being favored by Ella and her six brothers, and she had never met someone who would support her like this.
Now, hearing Gabrielâs words, Gina felt a strange emotion.
Gina came to her senses and asked, âWhat if Iâm a bully?â
Gabrielâs gaze was firm and resolute as he said, âThen Iâll still be by your side. Do you need a helper? How about I be your
assistant?â
Hearing that, Gina smiled sincerely, âWould it be expensive to hire you?â
âItâs freeâ
Gabriel paused for a moment, then added, âBut only for you.â
For some reason, Ginaâs cheeks felt hot, and she felt a strange sensation in her heart,
She had never felt this way before.
âAre you leaving? Shall I accompany you home?â Gabriel asked.
Gina shook her head and said, âI still need Peterâs help with something. I have to wait for him to deal with his own mess.â
âThen may I accompany you for a stroll!â
âSure.â Gina agreed.
Gabriel walked alongside her. This time, Gina felt that she didnât mind Gabrielâs proximity as much. In fact, she felt relaxed and at ease.
There were still many fortune-telling booths in the church.
Gina watched the people lining up to have their fortunes told and light incense. She asked Gabriel, âDo you believe in this
stuff?â
Gabriel shook his head and replied, âNo.â
If there were truly mysterious forces, then when he was in danger, someone should be coming to save him from peril.
His gaze softened as it fell on C i n a.
âItâs better to rely on oneself, Gabriel said.

Gina was somewhat surprised. It seemed that some of her beliefâs were quite compatible with Gabrielâs.
They walked past a fortune-telling booth.
The fortune-teller warmly said. âSir, Miss, would you like to have your marriage fortune told?â
Gina was not interested at all and was about to leave.
âYou two really make a perfect match, Why not give it a try?â
The words âperfect match made Gabriel pause. âHow much for a reading?â he asked.
40 dollars, the fortune-teller said.
Gina was confused.
Didnât he say he didnât believe in this!
âWhat are you doing?â Gina was puzzled.
Just for fun.â
There was a faint smile on Gabrielâs lips.
He took Ginaâs hand and said to the fortune-teller, âTell us about our marriage fortune.â
Gina was stunned.
They had no relationship at all.
But Gina didnât find it annoying when Gabriel held her hand.
âAlright. The fortune-teller happily agreed.
86%1
And so, he began his process, first asking Gabriel and Gina to show him their palms and then moving his fingers skillfully.
It seemed quite authentic.
The fortune-teller stroked his beard and said, âI didnât make a mistake. You two are truly meant to be together. Your marriage is destined, and you will be happy. Although there may be some obstacles in your relationship, you two will overcome them and live happily ever after.â
Gina didnât take the fortune-tellerâs words seriously at all.
She glanced at Gabriel.
Gabrielâs eyes were smiling, and he unconsciously tightened his grip on her hand.
He seemed to be in a good mood.
Gabriel then took out 400 dollars and gave it to the fortune-teller.
The fortune-tellerâs eyes widened and asked, âWhat does this mean, sir?â
âContinue.â
