Chapter 40
When She Stops Playing Nice
Chapter 40
The fortune-tellerâs eyes lit up as he said happily, âOkayâ
âYou two are truly a talented couple, suited for each other, destined for eternal loveâ¦
The fortune-teller was eager to recite all the blessings he had learned.
Gabriel listened with satisfaction, preparing to give more money for the fortune-teller to continue speaking, only to realize he had run out of cash. The fortune-teller immediately gave him his bank account, saying enthusiastically, âSir, you can send it to my card.â
Gabriel transferred 2 thousand dollars to the fortune-teller.
The fortune-teller was excited and said, âSir, you and this beautiful lady will definitely live a life of happiness forever, and you will give birth to many babies.â
If it werenât for Gina pulling Gabriel away, Gabriel might have given him more money.
Gina teased Gabriel, âMr. Jackson, seems like youâre generous with your money.â
Gabriel smiled, âI like what he said, so Iâm happy to give him money.
Gina felt her cheeks warm. She changed the subject and said, âThat fortune-teller must be thrilled. He met a big benefactor today.â
âA big benefactor? I feel that what he said will come true. Gabrielâs tone contained a faint smile. âWould you like to carn money from me, Gina?â
But then he added, âNo, you donât have to earn it. If itâs something you want, I can give it to you.â
Gabrielâs eyes showed a hint of indulgence.
Gina was taken aback and said somewhat stiffly, âYour money is yours. You can give it to me or take it back, right?â
So, it was better to have her own money.
âI can write a gift contract or a transfer agreement, whatever you want, Gabriel said with sincerity.
C i n a awkwardly avoided his gaze, âIâm not familiar with you, why would I want your money?â
âSo would
you
be willing to get close to me? For example, be my fiancée? That would at least give me a title,â Gabriel added.
Gina hadnât expected Gabriel to say so, leaving her unsure how to respond.
Was he being too hasty?
Gabriel worried that his eagerness would scare Gina away, so he said, âYou can take your time to consider this. Iâll wait for
your answer.
C i a lowered her eyelids and said nothing.
As they walked by, two passersby were muttering complaints.

That Peter is just a scammer. Thankfully, I didnât waste money on him for a fortune-telling session. What bad luck,â a asserby said.

Yeah, the lady who tried to cut in line earlier saved us. Otherwise, I wouldâve wasted money on Peter, another one added.
We should thank her. I almost joined others in cursing her earlier. Sheâs really kind-hearted,â said a man.
When we left just now, it looked like Peter was being beaten up, right?â
Serves him right.â
Gina listened indifferently to their conversation, thinking that Peter should have finished dealing with his mess by now. She needed to take Peter to handle some official business.
She turned back towards Blessing Tower, with Gabriel following.
At the base of Blessing Tower, the long queue from over an hour ago had disappeared..
Peter, disheveled and bruised, sat on the ground. His white robe was covered in shoe prints. The evidence he had embezzled from the church renovation fund, along with photos of his extravagant spending at bars, lay on the ground.
Peterâs eyes were vacant, as if he had lost his soul.
Gina thought to herself, âOne reaps what he sows.
Peter had pinned the label of disaster onto her, making her bear so much blame and endure so much humiliation.
If someone didnât harm Gina, she wouldnât take action. But if someone did, she would repay them a hundredfold.
This was Ginaâs principle.
âGet up, Gina said, looking down at Peter.
Peter shrank back when he saw Gina.
He regretted ever taking Oliviaâs money and doing things for her.
Peter dared not resent Gina. After all, Gina was acquainted with Gabriel, and their relationship seemed intimate. It would be useless to resent Gina. In the end, he was the one at fault.
So, all his resentment shifted onto Olivia.
Peter wiped his face and stood up. He was getting on in years, and being beaten up by so many people had left him feeling like his bones were about to fall apart.
He seemed more anxious than Gina and said, âMiss Miller, you said you wanted me to expose Oliviaâs bribery, right? Letâs go. Iâm readyâ
Since he was not feeling good, he wouldnât let go of Olivia.
Gina could tell that Peter was so excited because he wanted to get back at Olivia.
It was quite entertaining.
C i a chuckled inwardly and said, âNo rush, Iâll give you some time to change your cloth e s.
Chapter 40
An hour later, they arrived at Vegate Central Hospital.
Gina got out of Gabrielâs Rolls Royce, while Peter, dressed in casual clothes, got out of a taxi.
âSee you next time. Gabriel bid farewell to Gina reluctantly.
âGoodbye.â Gina was not so indifferent as before.
Gabriel noticed this detail and felt very pleased.
David watched Gina walk away and asked curiously. âMr. Jackson, arenât you going to help Miss Miller?â
If Gabriel intervened, the Miller family wouldnât dare to bully Gina, and she could vent her frustrations freely.

David had seen the disgusting behavior of the Miller family, James, as the eldest, even tried to run over Gina with a car. If it werenât for Gabrielâs timely intervention, Gina would be in hospital now.
However, James had received his due punishment. Following Gabrielâs instructions, David ensured that Jamesâs brakes were tampered with while his car was being repaired after he sent it to the shop due to a punctured tire from a nail.
James had predictably gotten into an accident.
But he deserved it.
âNo, Gina doesnât like me interfering without her consent. I donât want to upset her, Gabriel replied.
Besides, Gabriel knew Gina could handle things herself.
If the Miller family dared to harm Gina again, he wouldnât let them off lightly, Gabrielâs eyes flashed with a hint of fierceness.
He knew the Miller family treated Gina poorly, but he hadnât acted before because Gina hadnât completely cut ties with them yet. They were still her âfamilyâ nominally.
Gabriel turned to David and asked, âHow did the investigation go?â
David was speechless.
Gabriel said he wouldnât intervene in Ginaâs affairs but still offered silent support.
âMr. Jackson, the surveillance footage of Oliviaâs car accident has been tampered with and is being repaired. However, I found out that someone beat us to it and extracted the damaged surveillance footage.â
