Chapter 406
When She Stops Playing Nice
Chapter 406
Xander involuntarily stopped in his tracks.
âMiss Miller, I have an urgent request, Xander asked.
With that, Xander knelt before Gina and continued, âI hope you can help me find my father. He went missing near your hospital. Could you please check if anyone coming and going from the hospital has seen him?
âI know itâs a lot to ask of you, but⦠Iâm out of options. Iâll repay you however I can!â Xander bowed to Gina without hesitation. He had already lost his sister and couldnât bear to lose his only remaining family, his father.
Since his father had disappeared near Ginaâs hospital, Gina saw no problem in helping. She gestured for him to rise and said, âI can ask around for you, Mr. Xiang. Donât worry.â
âThank you!â Xander said, tearfully grateful.
Gina suggested, âLetâs check the surveillance footage first and see if we can find anything
After four hours of meticulous review, they discovered that Xanderâs father walked into a blind spot in the surveillance coverage after passing through the rightmost greenery and then disappeared. None of the surrounding cameras captured any further footage of him.
They might need to check the surveillance footage from nearby residential buildings.
Xander was on the brink of collapse. Where could his father have gone? The longer there was no news, the more likely it seemed to bring bad news.
Gina assured him and said, âDonât worry, Iâll have people ask around to see if anyone has seen your father.â
âThank you,â Xander said.
Grateful but anxious, Xander left with the police officers.
Gabriel asked Gina, âIs there anything else you need to take care of?â
Gina sent a message to Dylan, asking him to look into Xanderâs fatherâs disappearance.
âThereâs nothing else for now,â Gina said to Gabriel, putting her phone down.
Gabriel smiled, took Ginaâs hand, and said, âThen we should start planning our engagement. Letâs go to Oriata City.â
Gina was slightly taken aback and asked, âOriata City? What for?â
âDonât cry anymore. If you keep crying, your eyes will be swollen.â Colin sat by Elaineâs bedside in the room, comforting her as she sobbed inconsolably.
He wasnât good at consoling people, but this was his sister. Otherwise, he wouldnât have bothered.
Anyone else crying in front of him would have been slapped by now.
Elaine leaned against the headboard, unable to control her emotions, and asked again, âColin, has Ginaâs mood improved? I canât get up now. I canât go anywhere!â
Elaine was growing increasingly desperate. Her legs had completely lost sensation, and she leared that if this continued, they might be permanently

paralyzed.
âShe hasnât contacted me,â Colin replied irritably.
They were in a difficult position.
He had already swallowed his pride to negotiate with Gina for Elaineâs sake, but she remained unyielding.

And he didnât have any evidence that Gina caused Elaineâs legs to lose sensation and become unable to stand. He was also very curious about how Gina managed to immobilize Elaineâs legs without any physical contact.
Elaine cried even more sorrowfully. She grabbed Colinâs hand and pleaded, âColin, you have to find a way!â
Colin patted Elaineâs hand reassuringly and said, âAlright. Donât worry. Iâll find a way.â
Colin pondered. Gina wasnât swayed by money. To make her happy, heâd have to do something significant.
He thought of people who had a grudge against C i n a and suddenly remembered Oliviaâ¦
Since losing a kidney, Ellaâs health had deteriorated rapidly
Coupled with Jamesâs death, she was devastated and spent her days weakly lying in bed
Olivia brought her a bowl of tonic and said, âMom, take this. Youâre too weak.
Ella had no desire to take it.
âYour brother, heâ¦â
Ashley threatened them, saying if they dared to hold a funeral for James, they would face consequences. So, in the end, there was no funeral for James.
Rolling her eyes internally, Olivia pretended to be caring and consoled Ella, whose son had long been dead. âMom, donât be too sad. James wouldnât blame us for not holding a funeral for him. He would surely want our family to live well.â
Ella didnât respond, just continued to cry.
Olivia felt irritated, wishing she could just splash the bowl of tonic directly onto Ellaâs face. Olivia didnât bother to comfort her anymore. âMom, calm down first. Iâll leave the tonic here for you, and you can drink it later,â
As Olivia got up to leave, the door suddenly swung open. Thinking it was Noah and the others returning, she was surprised to see Colin instead.
Startled, Olivia forced a smile and asked, âMr. Barnes, what brings you here?â
Colin looked at both women, âI need to speak with you. No, with both of you.â
Olivia felt uneasy, sensing something bad was about to happen, âWhat could be so important that you came personally? Iâm sorry we didnât greet you properly,â
Oliviaâs heart sank as a strong sense of foreboding washed over her. The problem was, even if she wanted to run, she couldnât.â
All she could do was try to ingratiate herself with Colin.
Colin continued to press on relentlessly.

Olivia instinctively backed away and asked, âMr. Barnes, whatâs this about?â
Colin grabbed her hair and said, âJust come with me.â
Terrified, Olivia pleaded, âMr. Bames, can we talk this out?â
Colin smiled grimly and said, âItâs not me who wants to talk. Itâs your dear sister, Gina.â

Olivia was stunned.
Gina must have some extraordinary power to command Colin to deal with her. Olivia thought, âBut wait, wasnât Colin also at odds with Gina before? How come heâs now supporting Gina?â
âWhy, Mr. Barnes? Why are you helping Gina?â Olivia asked.
Colin dragged her by the hair. âYouâll find out when you see her.â
Ella, who was lying on the bed in a down mood, became anxious when she saw Olivia being pulled out by Colin. She almost scrambled out of bed, saying. âWhere are you taking my daughter?â
Ella, her legs weak, nearly stumbled and sat down on the ground. She leaned against the bedside table, struggling to stand up. Worried that she couldnât catch up with them, she disregarded everything and grabbed the water glass from the bedside table. Without hesitation, she swung the water glass directly at Colinâs back. The glass hit Colinâs back squarely, causing him to halt in his tracks.
Olivia was stunned when she saw the glass hit the ground.
