Chapter 438
When She Stops Playing Nice
Chapter 438
Having retrieved the syringe, Gina said, âSince it wasnât you, thereâs no issue.â With that, she turned and left.
Left alone in disarray, Ashley wondered if Gina had left without any plans for retaliation. Wasnât she going to take advantage of Ashleyâs illness to exact some revenge? But once she was sure that Gina had left, Ashley breathed a sigh of relief. She immediately called out loudly for the Anny, who hurried in, asking. âMiss Jackson, whatâs wrong?â
âLock the doors light, and donât open for anyonel Ashley exclaimed in agitation.
âAlright, alright.â the nanny nodded frantically.
The next day, Gina arrived at Cathyâs ward. After another round of treatment, Cathy was out of danger and transferred to a regular ward. She had also regained consciousness
âSo youâre saying that you accidentally came into contact with the waste fluid in the medical garbage that day, and thatâs how it happened?â Gina asked.
âYes, Mr. Jackson was busy on the phone then, and I offered to help. It was my carelessness,â Cathy said. She attributed it to her misfortune.
Gina nodded. âDonât worry, Iâll ensure youâre well again,â she reassured Cathy.
Cathy felt a wave of despair wash over her. Despite Ginaâs comforting words, she couldnât shake the feeling of hopelessness. If even the excellent medical facilities at Prover Hospital couldnât identify the virus ravaging her body, how could she expect to be cured? Ginaâs kindness was appreciated, but Cathy knew deep down that her condition was likely terminal. As she reflected on her tumultuous life, filled with mistakes and heartbreak, Cathy couldnât help but feel overwhelmed by the unfairness of it all.
Cathy couldnât hold back her tears as she spoke, her voice trembling. âOkay, Miss Miller. But how much will the treatment cost? if itâs too much, I wonât be able to afford it. M-Maybe I should give up on treatment. Her words choked with emotion.
Gina understood Cathyâs concems well. âDonât worry about the cost. Just focus on getting better. Helping you is helping myself, too. Youâre not a burden to me.â
Cathy was taken aback and asked, âMiss Miller, what do you mean?â
âIâve been infected with the same virus as you,â Gina explained.
Cathy was surprised and sat up straight, although her body felt uncomfortable, causing her to cough violently. She scrutinized Gina and asked, âMiss Miller, are you okay then?â
âIâm fine for now. The extent of how this virus might affect me in the long run is unclear, so further observation is needed. But Iâm not too worried about it, Gina assured. She was confident she could manage the virus.
Miss Miller, if thereâs any need for testing medication, you can go ahead and try it on me, Cathy offered, feeling relieved after Ginaâs reassurance
Gina looked at Cathy in surprise. âDo you know what youâre saying? Testing medication on you sounds like Iâm treating you as an experimental subject. Thatâs illegal. Besides, as I mentioned, ril treat you and not use you as an experimental subject. Weâll both be taking the medication and if you experience any adverse reactions, you need to inform me immediately. Our bodies may react differently to the virus due to our physiological differences, so the symptoms of the virus may also vary between us.â
Cathy realized she had misspoken and hurried to explain, âMiss Miller, Iâm sorry. Thatâs not what I meant at all. I didnât mean to suggest you treat me like an experimental subject. I feel like lowe you so much, and if thereâs any way I can repay you, Iâm willing to do whatever it takes.â
In reality, Gina didnât feel like Cathy owed her anything. Instead, she felt guilty that Cathy got caught in the crossfire of Ashleyâs retaliation against her Gina continued, âDonât worry, I wonât hesitate to ask if I need your help with anything. But for now, your priority is to take care of your health and to low my instructions, understood?â
Chapter 438
âUnderstood!â Cathy nodded. Then, with a tinge of frustration, she added, âMiss Miller, itâs all my fault. Nothing would have happened if I had been more careful that day.â She realized she had caused trouble for Gina again.
âItâs not your fault. No one could have anticipated such an unexpected turn of events.â Gina shook her head reassuringly.
Seven days later, Harry was finally released from the detention center, walking out with a saor expression. Ashley was waiting at the entrance to greet
him.
âDad!â Ashley hurriedly greeted him, offering to welcome Harry back home and help him shake off any bad luck.
âAshley, how have you been while I was away?â Harry asked, embracing Ashley and looking somewhat believed.
âNothing to worry about. Iâve been doing well,â Ashley replied. Then she asked, âDad, how was it for you inside? You werenât mistreated or anything, were you?â
He wasnât mistreated, but Harry couldnât believe heâd been detained at this stage! He pondered, âDylan Thomas, what a b**d! How dare he refuse to settle? Just wait! I wonât let him off the h**k!â Harry couldnât shake the feeling that Gina might have persuaded Dylan to refuse the settlement, to see him detained and humiliated.
âBy the way, Ashley, did Gina Miller come to see you for a check-up these past few days?â Harry didnât want to dwell on the infuriating issues that could drive him crazy. His priority was Ashleyâs health. During the seven days in detention, the only thing he couldnât shake off was concern for Ashleyâs weak
health.
However, today, Ashleyâs complexion was much better than seven days ago. Ginaâs medical skills seem somewhat effective. If they werenât, he wouldnât let Gina off the h**k! He paid her 200 million dollars, so there would be consequences if it didnât work!
Ashley shook her head. âNo.â
Harryâs face darkened as he pondered, âIâd spent 200 million dollars on Gina Millerâs consultation, and she only checked Ashley once? D**n it, whatâs with this so-called âDr. Genevieveâ? Sheâs nothing but a crooked doctor!â
Ashley paused before speaking, âDad, Gina Miller didnât come to visit me, but a few nights ago, she showed up at my door unexpectedly and threatened
âmelâ
bling with fear then, unsure of whom to turn to for protection. Harry was in the detention center, and reporting Gina to the authorities Ashley was trembling seemed futile since she hadnât caused substantial harm. Seeking help from Gabriel or her uncle seemed pointless, as they supported Gina. Fortunately, Gina didnât show up the following days, easing Ashleyâs fears.
Harry was taken aback. âWhat did you say? Did she threaten you? How did she threaten you?â Harry thought, âHow could that b**h dare to threaten my daughter!â
âShe asked if linject some virus into that b**h Cathy Fowler? Moreover, Sheâs dying. Diddo something like that?â I didnât do anything like that!â Ashley
said.
