Chapter 108
My Bestfriend Slipped Inside Me (An Alpha’s Secret)
Averyâs pov I felt like the ground had opened up and crumbled, sucking me into a void hole. What the hell is he talking about? Animal DNA?
âAnimal DNA?â I repeated, testing the word on my tongue and it felt strange. As strange as hearing it.
He nods, eyeing me intensely. âYes,â he respond, pushing up his glasses that slid down his nose. âWe need to run further tests to understand what is going on. Especially with you being pregnant, it would be safe to be checked.â
âWhat kind of animal?â I whispered in disbelief, unable to come to terms with what I am hearing. I donât understand. Things were jumbled mess around me.
I have run blood test before and no doctor has ever told me theyâve seen animal dna in my tests. Perhaps they made a mistake.
The doctor and the nurse exchange looks, before he brings his eyes back to mine. âWolf.â He utters. âBut we canât discuss further because we too have not run enough tests to be sure-
âYou must have gotten it wrong.â I said, trying to wave this off as a mistake. âRerun the tests. All of them.â
The doctor maintains his composure and nod stiffly. âYes, given your condition it is crucial we run another tests to make sure everything is accurate as possible. But to do that, you need to lie back on the bed.â
I glanced at Melissa who had gone silent, her eyes losing focus as if she was somewhere else in her head.
I hesitated. I wanted to go to Xade. Yet the information the doctor had just shared with me concerned me enough to nod and agree.
The nurse steps forward to help get me comfortable on the bed, putting back the IV I had harshly taken out not too long ago. I sink my teeth deep into my lower lip, frightened of the unusual results.
âWe will draw some more blood and run a full panel,â the doctor explained. âIt might take a bit longer but weâll make sure to get back to you as soon as possible.â
As the nurse worked on drawing out my blood, I closed my eyes, clenching them tightly as I try to steady my frantic thoughts.
When the nurse is done they both left and told me theyâd be back with the results in a few. Now the room had gone quiet as Melissa sits on the chair beside the bed, her eyes straying to the wall.
âI should call your mom,â she whispered, yet she seemed so far away. âI shouldâve called her earlier actually.â
âWait no,â I said quickly. âI donât want to worry her and want to make sure I know whatâs actually going on first. Sheâs someone whoâd drop everything and come here and I donât want that kind of stress on her.â
Melissa nod, her eyes casting low to the ground. The air around us is tense and awkward. It goes in like this for what felt like an hour but had only been a few minutes. âWhat do you think he meant when he said you have animal dna in your blood?â
Melissa cracked the awkward silence with a question I had no clue on how to respond. How could I when I didnât know anything myself.
I shrugged. âCould have been a mistake. Itâs impossible.â
She nod. âCould be,â her eyes lift to mine and then shift her eyes to my stomach. âAre you going to get rid of it?â
My heart does an odd painful squeeze in my chest by her sudden question. I press my hand to my stomach as if I were protecting the baby inside there from her words.
âNo,â I frowned. Come to think of it, that question never fluttered in my mind once. âWhy would I?â
She shook her head. âAvery, youâre still young and if what you say is true about Xade being the father,â she had doubt in her voice. âThen a guy like Xade wouldnât want to be tied down with a kid.â
I gripped the sheets hard, grounding my teeth. âYou donât know Xade Melissa. And if he doesnât then I can take care of our baby on my own.â
Melissa stared at me for a little longer before sighing and nodding. Look, I donât want that guy to come between us again Avery.â She reached out and squeezed my hand gently. âJust be careful with him.â
She doesnât know Xade like I do. Despite not having all the answers, I knew for a fact that Xade would never hurt me.
