Chapter 1007
Heartbreak Brings Mr. Right
âCarole, donât cry,â he murmured, his words slurred but sincere.
âI promise, no one will ever make you cry.â
Carole clasped Reeceâs hand in hers.
âReece, do you like me?â she asked softly, her voice tinged with a hint of coyness.
Reeceâs response was weighted with emotion, his nod heavy with the weight of unspoken longing.
âSince the first time I saw you, I fell in love with you,â he confessed.
âThen why didnât you ever tell me?â Carole asked softly.
Reeceâs face twisted with pain as he struggled to find the right words.
The weight of his secret confession sat heavy on his shoulders, threatening to crush him under its burden.
âI wanted to tell you.
Then, I found out that you were Domenicâs fiancée.
So, I had no choice but to quit,â Reece said with a sigh, his voice heavy with emotion.
Carole leaned in closer, her gaze unwavering.
âSometimes, Reece, the heart wants what it wants.
Although Iâm Domenicâs fiancée, it doesnât mean we canât be together,â Carole said coquettishly as she stroked the back of Reeceâs hand.
Reece was drunk, his mind foggy and thoughts muddled.
Caroleâs words stirred something deep within him, igniting a fierce desire to hug and kiss her as if he were under a spell.
Yet, a flicker of sanity fought back, reminding him he couldnât succumb to his impulses.
His heart pounded, caught between Longing and restraint, as he struggled to maintain control.
He knew he had to keep his distance from his friendâs fiancée, to not let himself get too close.
As long as Carole was still connected to Domenic, any improper desire had to be pushed aside.
Reece repeated this mantra in his mind, trying to fortify his resolve.
But before he could fully convince himself, Caroleâs soft and warm lips were suddenly on his.
She kissed him, and all his defenses crumbled in an instant.
The unexpected contact sent a jolt through him, drowning out the small voice of reason.
His world narrowed to the warmth of her lips and the electric sensation that spread through him.
He reached out and pulled her into his arms, taking the initiative with a fervent kiss that left her breathless.
To his surprise, Carole didnât resist.
Instead, she melted into him, her hands sliding up his back.
Between breathless gasps, she pleaded, âReece, not here.
I got a room upstairs.
We can go upstairs.â
Reeceâs eyes burned with a fiery intensity, the urge to devour the woman in front of him overwhelming.
He paused the kiss, staring deeply into Caroleâs eyes, then Lifted her up without a word.
His kiss returned, more urgent than before, as he carried her towards the stairs.
The next morning, the sun broke through the curtains and cast its light on Reeceâs gentle and handsome face.
Because of the warm sensation, he frowned and slowly opened his eyes.
A sharp headache pierced his temples, and he rubbed them, trying to recall the events of the night before.
What happened last night? He had a vague collection, like a hazy dream, of him and Carole together.
Suddenly, realization struck Reece like a bolt of lightning.
With wide eyes, he bolted upright in bed, scanning the messy room.
He glanced to the side and saw Carole lying beside him, the sheets tangled around her.
Her clothes scattered haphazardly across the floor, and the whole room was a wreck.
Oh God! What had he done?
Panic seized Reece, squeezing the air from his lungs.
Instantly, a whirlwind of regret and fear swirled within him.
What he had done was a mistake that could cost him everything.
How could he sleep with Domenicâs fiancée? If Domenic found out, he would kill him!
Fragments of the previous night flashed through Reeceâs mind, a blurry montage of reckless decisions fueled by too much alcohol.
He knew that he was never good at holding his liquor.
Yet, despite this self-awareness, he had indulged in drinking too much, allowing the heady rush of alcohol to cloud his judgment.
