Chapter 168
Heartbreak Brings Mr. Right
Feeling somewhat downcast, she pulled out her phone, contemplating calling Domenic but hesitated, not wanting to bother him repeatedly.
Eventually, she dialed her best friend, Nancy.
âLindsey, whatâs going on? Do you miss me?â Nancyâs voice had a cheerful and gentle tone.
She had been Lindseyâs sole companion for many years.
Lindseyâs nose twitched slightly, and she couldnât help but feel sentimental.
âYes, I miss you too.
â
âWhy so mushy all of a sudden? Iâm not used to this.
Just to be clear, I donât want to be a lesbian!â
Nancy playfully teased her, noticing Lindseyâs somber tone.
As expected, it drew a laugh from Lindsey.
âf@ck off.
Did you run into Mercer recently?â She had been meaning to ask Nancy about it, but with her recent busy schedule, she hadnât found the time to give her a call.
âs BunnyBookery
Nancy sighed and said, âYes, I did, but he thought I was a crazy fan and ran away in a hurry.
â
âWhen did you start to have a crush on him?â Lindsey inquired, intrigued.
âItâs a long story.
He just⦠gives me a special feeling in a unique way.
Iâm not giving up on him.
â
Respecting Nancyâs reluctance to talk about it, Lindsey didnât ask for details.
They continued their conversation for a bit before saying goodbye.
Feeling a bit more cheerful, Lindsey decided to head back.
Unaware, she walked past a unique beach car parked a short distance away.
Inside, Domenic sat with one hand on the steering wheel and the other resting on the door, watching her with a look of concern in his eyes.
Arturo was in the passenger seat, his eyes following Domenicâs.
He broke into a teasing smile.
âDidnât you see enough of her at the birthday banquet just now? And now youâre following her here.
â Tell me, Domenic, have you fallen for her or what?â
He was leaving for Blosa the next day and had called Domenic out for a night together.
But Domenic had been distracted all evening.
Heâd heard Lindsey was at the party and, knowing the beef between her, Kendra, and Shelia, he worried something might go down.
So heâd dragged Arturo out under a flimsy pretext, both of them keeping a covert watch on the party to make sure Lindsey was okay.
Arturo continued, grinning, âShe really is something.
She flipped the situation all on her own and made that lady wet herself with embarrassment.
Man, that was hilarious.
â
Domenic turned his sharp gaze to Arturo.
Arturoâs laughter died, and he leaned in, his voice dropping to a grave note.
âBe careful with a woman like her.
Theyâre tricky to handle.
A little fun now and then is okay, but donât get tangled up.
She could cling to you.
â
Domenic shrugged off the warning.
âIâm not worried about her clinging.
â
Arturo looked surprised.
âNot worried? But what about your grandpa Jordan? I hear heâs dead set on a certain type of woman for his granddaughter-in-law.
Someone from the right background.
You think heâd be cool with you dating Lindsey?â
Domenic gave him an icy look.
âDonât worry about me.
â
Then something seemed to hit him, and he quirked an eyebrow.
âBy the way, do you know whose news Iâve got recently?â
