Chapter 217
Heartbreak Brings Mr. Right
Sitting up attentively, Jayleen said courteously, âHello, is this Miss Selah Potter?â
âYes, it is.
May I ask who you are?â
âIâm Jayleen Archer, the agent director at Vitality Entertainment.
Iâve heard about your interest in joining us.
Weâre also looking forward to collaborating with you.
When would you be free? Letâs arrange a meeting to discuss signing the contract.
â
âOhâ¦â Selah hesitated for a second before saying, âYou know, it might be better if Lindsey discussed this with me.
I donât want to trouble you, Miss Archer.
â
The corners of Jayleenâs mouth turned down slightly, but she forced a pleasant tone.
âWell, the thing is, our company policy requires artists of your standing to deal directly with the director agent, soâ¦â
âFine, but I have one condition to sign with your company.
If you agree, then we can set up a meeting.
â
âOf course, tell me what it is.
Weâll do our best to accommodate,â
Jayleen replied, her spirits liftingâ¦
âI want Lindsey as my agent.
Thatâs my term for signing the contract.
â
Jayleen felt a knot form in her stomach, her forced smile freezing in place.
She hadnât anticipated Selah demanding Lindsey as her agent!
She had her own plans for Selah once the contract was signed, with no intention of letting Lindsey be involved.
Furthermore, she was determined to remove Lindsey from the company.
How could she let Lindsey to bring in someone as significant as Selah?
âIâm afraid I canât do that, Miss Potter.
Our company assigns agents after an artist signs on,â Jayleen explained, trying to maintain composure.
Selah, unfazed, pressed on, âMiss Archer, Iâve never heard of such a strict policy.
My request isnât unreasonable.
If your company canât grant this small concession, then perhaps we have nothing further to discuss.
â
Having been out of the limelight for five years, Selah was still sharp, easily seeing through Jayleenâs schemes.
She knew well how agents bent over backwards for the chance to represent a star.
Jayleen frowned, a clear sign she wasnât pleased.
Facing Selah directly, though, meant trouble she didnât want, so she forced a smile and said, âMiss Potter, Iâm not in the position to decide on this right now.
Iâll run it by the vice general manager and get back to you once we have an answer.
â
âSure, thatâs fine.
â
The moment she hung up, Jayleen slumped back in her chair, her face clouded over with gloom.
Later in the day, Jayleen summoned Lindsey to her office.
âMiss Archer, have you touched base with Selah? Is the contract done?â
Lindsey entered, bubbling with enthusiasm.
