Chapter 288
Heartbreak Brings Mr. Right
âI might be mistaken.
Hendrix quickly backpedaled, regretting heâd brought it up.
âYouâre not mistaken,â Domenic said with a slight smile.
âYes, Iâm in that photo.
Tell me, Hendrix, how long have you been with me?â
Caught off guard by the question, Hendrix blurted out, âOver 10 years.
â
âOver a decade by my side, youâd recognize me instantly,â Domenic acknowledged with a nod.
Hendrix sensed a softness in Domenic today.
The usual icy stare was gone, his expression milder.
Was his boss in such a good mood for a reason?
âThanks for all these years,â Domenic suddenly expressed, catching Hendrixâs gaze.
Hendrixâs heart skipped a beat.
Rarely had he heard Domenic speak kindly.
Surely this spelled trouble.
He probably overstepped, and now his job was on the Line!
âBoss, I⦠I apologize! Please, donât let me go! I wonât tell anyone about the photo! Just give me another chance!â he pleaded.
Domenicâs brow furrowed in confusion.
âWhat are you rambling about?
Iâm not firing you.
â
âs BunnyBookery
âWhat? Re⦠Really?â
Hendrix was still shaken, but when he snuck a look at Domenic, his boss didnât look mad.
âIâm serious.
â Something clicked in Domenicâs head, and a slight grin touched his lips.
His gaze, lit by the gentle sunlight streaming through the window behind Hendrix, seemed to soften.
âYou know, twelve years back, I was just sixteen.
â
âRight.
â Domenicâs reminiscing pulled Hendrix back to those old days.
âThe first time we met, I was the kid who got tossed into the sea and you were there, pulling me out.
You didnât just save me, you gave me a home.
Iâve been by your side ever since.
â
To Hendrix, Domenic was more than a boss.
He was a hero.
Back then, a sixteen-year-old Domenic had single-handedly fought off a bunch of older guys to rescue Hendrix.
Domenic was a force to be reckoned with, his presence alone was intimidating, and when he dealt with those thugs, his eyes were void of pity.
Hendrix saw him as a gangster, only to find out later that Domenic was the heir to a financial empire, the Walsh family, rulers of one of Morcastleâs most influential families.
Hendrix could never forget their second encounter, when Domenic had told him, âI saved you, and now you owe me.
Youâre gonna stick by me and pay me back with undying loyalty, got it?â
Without hesitation, Hendrix had agreed, âAbsolutely, sir.
Iâd rather meet a terrible end than ever cross you.
â
Remembering those times seemed to bring a smile to both their faces.
âHendrix.
Domenicâs commanding tone snapped Hendrix back to the present.
âMy uncles are getting antsy.
Put together some peace offerings for them.
And make sure they donât step out of line.
â
âUnderstood.
Iâll take care of it now.
â A shadow fell over Hendrixâs face.
âAnd leave the Twitter drama to me.
Iâve got a plan.
â With that, Domenic returned to his paperwork.
